Subject: Etanercept or Adalimumab?

Hi all. I`ve had RA for about 4 yrs now. On my last visit to the rheumatologist I was given a choice of drugs to decide on by my next appointment. The choice is adalimumab or etanercept but after researching them both they seem equal. Can anybody recommend one or the other plz. I inject mtx at the moment and take leflunomide tablets. Hopefully, whatever the drug is in the future it`ll give me my life back...fed up with spending life just to survive RA and work.

Hi richard i think most of the anti tnfs are much the same you can get more info about them on theNICE website. National Institute For Clinical Excellence ive just started Cimzia am slowly improving. One of the anti tnfs is given iv in hospital clinics the others you self inject i opted for the self injections as i work full time so it fits in better with my life. Hope things work other you xx

Hello,

Although I don't take Cimzia any more, when I did I felt much better. I had to stop taking it as I got local reactions at the injection site. They weren't horridly uncomfortable, just a hot red patch of skin that lasted a week or two. I wouldn't let this put you off giving it a go though as I found that the good effects kicked in quite soon after the first couple of doses. If you do opt for this, it might be worth asking for it in syringe form rather than pen. Firstly, you can control the speed at which it is injected and therefore control the discomfort. Secondly I kept getting batch after batch of faulty pens which didn't inject!

Never tried Adalimumab/Humira.

Thanks Cookie and Poppy for you valued advice. Since being given the choice of drugs back in January, the hospital cancelled appointments due to staff holidays etc and during this time my RA wasn`t really kept under control. I finally had an appointment last week and i`m now going to be prescribed Cimzia( thats alot easier than saying Certolizumab Pegol), so hopefully that will help as i`ve heard alot of good things about it.

Thanks again, Richard xx
