Hi All, Steve here i'm 49 and i've had RA for 6 years now and until 12 months ago was doing great on sulfasalazine but then they stopped working and damaged my liver, so ok i've been on leflumonide which did nothing and im convinced they made me worse so now will be starting on methotrexate so ill wait and see what happens, anyway in the mean time thought i'd have a look round the net to see if there was any research into new drugs and the like for arthritis and found this http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/about_us/arthritis_news/press_releases/2009/new_drug_aims_to_switch_off_ra.aspx , now some of you may have seen it but just thought id put the link up anyway, ive read it and thought it sounded pretty good, have look and tell me what you think.... Hi Stephen, I have recently joined this lovely group. Recently diagnosed with sero negative inflammatory arthritis plus this last week Giant Cell Arterlitis (temporal arthritis). I currently take Plaquenil but consultant wants to take this off me and replace it with methotrexate because of a very recent problem with my temporal arteries which apparently are being effected quite dramitically by the arthritis. Did you hesitate about methotrexate or are you ok with this change to your medication. Gillian

hi Stephen, this is interesting. I am on Cimzia, which helps quite a lot but it would be amazing to have a one off treatment. Thanks for posting this.

Gillian thanks for the reply, im not on methotrexate yet im due to start on the 24th of this month but i have no problem of trying them regardless of any side effects as most drugs carry some form of side effect, its just a case of suck it and see and if its no good move onto the next. bsk i'm glad you had a look it does look interesting. There's hope for us all! It seem a lot of research is going on, fingers crossed things get out into the NHS quickly. btw, I was nervous about Mtx and had to come off it after 9 months as I got a very severe respiratory infection, but lots of people do well on it.
