Subject: Medical reports done by GPs???? Grrrrrrr

Hiya am apologising first for this rant SORRY!
but I have been turned down for after reconsideration for DLA and will now have to go to appeal, which in my humble and frustrated opinion is a complete waste of my time and their resources which could be spent better elsewhere.
On top of stupid points they have pointed out such as I can walk more than 50 yards without falling down????????? (Does this mean that all facilities that I need have to be within 50 yeards of my home??????) they have cited a medical report from my GP surgery. I phoned the surgery to ask who had made the report out only to be told it was the head of the surgery who is actually my named Doctor but in the 2 and a half years that I have been the surgery I have only seen twice due to the stupid appointment systems they seem to work off these days and those 2 times were at the beginning of my registration, so I am wondering how someone who would not recognise my name never mind me if he fell over me in the street can write a full and candid report on the way I am handling RA and what I can and cannot achieve in my daily life.
I have today sent the appeal form in and have asked for a copy of this report and am going to fight them to the very end.
I do wonder whether the decision makers for DLA actually understand the ramifacations of RA or if they are just reading Arthritis..... I have included an invite to the decision maker and the appeal panel to vist me at home and spend a day to witness for themselves the restrictions we have to overcome to achieve success in the most mundane of daily tasks.
At this moment in time I want to get this Government by the ears and shake some common sense and decency into their heads as they are the ones pushing the NHS into the ground.
anyway I won't bore you with any more of my rant as I coud go on for ever:(

I have first hand experience of DLA i am still fighting to get what i feel i rightly deserve. Having worked all my life to help with raising my three kids. My hubby has also worked all his life. I am not saying this makes me special but just angry at the way i am being treated now. When i see a neighbour on full everything, picking up her 4yr old grandson and swinging him around (i just wish i could do this). How they decide on who gets what i have no idea!!! I do think its down to our GPs who like you i always see a different one if i want a quick appoinment. Of course if i need to see a gp i need it today not in a weeks time, so who ever is fine. When i filled in my appeal form i wrote a seperate sheet to tell them who i wanted them to get in touch with, after eight weeks they have just written to say sorry we havent dealt with your claim yet.WHY i dont have a clue, they didnt say but i will be phoning them soon to see what is going on. Arthritis covers so much from painless to unbearable i accept it may be difficult for the layman to understand, but you would think by now they should have got there heads round it. When i spoke to the guy from DLA he phoned to ask me what is tramadol, does it hurt when i walk and how much does my shoulder hurt. I felt like saying cant you read. Then he went on to ask loads of other questions like he was trying to trip me up( i dont need him to do that im quite capable of doing that all by myself)LOL. I am sitting in my bed full of pain from the bottom of my back up to my neck, reading all the posts on here and im telling you i could chuck the computer out of the window it makes me so mad(i wont be, my hands are so painful i couldnt oick it up)Mistakes have started in my post sorry pain is bad to-day. Dont g et me started on the goverment. well ranting over i hope you get your claim sorted soon. Take care

ty for answering:)
You touched on one of my saddest points Marlene, my young grand daughters have come up from the south to see me and it really hurts not to be able to pick them up and give them big hugs like I used to this time last year:( I love their company and they lift my spirits and would like to be able to take them for walks on the beach with the dogs.
I think we should start a petition on behalf of RA sufferers and similar conditions to send to the government and DWP explaining the condition and that surely it should be held much further up the list when it comes to benefits than people with self inflicted conditions of choice such as addictions etc.
Lynne really sorry that you are experiencing the same issues as we are, one good thing is that this forum is like your new walking sticks to lean on:)
Oh dear here I go again on my soapbox, sorry guys

My youngest grandaughter is only 9 months old and i now can rarely hold her as you know at that age they they throw themselves around and are so quick.i am scared i may drop her. It breaks my heart to think i dont hold and cuddle her as much as my two older granchildren 9 and 12yrs. My granchildren also lift my spirits. I know exactly how it feels. Well its nice to have a rant with people who totally know what you are talking about. Take Care

Ive not applied for any benefits yet as not sure if i am and will i be overlooked as its my arms, hands and wrists.

My concern is i am unable to work atm as i use computers but because of a disease or affliction that was out of my control then I feel somewhat punished when it comes to paying for the meds and any other help.

The disease might lose me my job as ive been off 6 weeks now and as the hospital and GP has removed all meds im certainly not getting better or abld to work.

They have full access to all my GP reports but I think the government should recognise all arthritus sufferers and offee help and assistance and free meds to help something that isnt self inflicted

Lee there is a form HC2 for low income people to claim free prescriptions it may also be a good idea to get in contact with nhs and ask do you have to pay when you are long term sick . I hope this is of some use. Lee they have us all ways, even when we are not capable of work they expect us to pay when we have little money coming in. My hubby has to do 12hour shifts to keep food on the table. I should of been entitled to my pension now i am 60 but guess what they just put the age up 61yrs and 10months before i can claim. No heating allowance for me this year either I just said thanks or somethiing similar.I get free meds just as well i have 6 items a month for my health issues arthur and asthma psorias and exzema. Before i paid the yearly cost of £110 still alot cheaper for me. Goverment!!!! i dont think they are that bothered about what we think .If they had their way we would get a big fat zero. LOL thats what we are already getting by what i read on here. Rant over!!!!(for now)LOL

Thought I'd let you all know I am going to see the GP who wrote the report that failed my DLA today, to say the very least I have a mountain of questions for him, at the summit is How could you write a report on someone that you haven't seen in 2 years? and it be accurate

Hiya:)
Yep Marlene they can apparently it is usually the head of the practice that does them.
I spoke to mine today and he informed me that he did the report before he got the letter from my specialist telling him that I had Seropositive RA. He also added that the questions that the report asks are very similar to the questions for the Fittness for work Medical Assessment done for ESA....ie: Does the paitient have difficulty dressing and performing everyday tasks etc....
My answer to that was well are you in bed with me in a morning, do you watch me dress? I told him I felt that it would have been more appropriate for him to have said that he was completely unaware of my status in these issues and was therefore unable to answer appropriately. He gave me a copy of the letter sent from my Specialist informing him of my diagnosis, medication and state of mind and has advised that I send that in to the DLA..... which of course I will be doing alongside a strong worded letter telling them what I think of their protocols and questionaires.
I hope you hear from your appeal, I am hoping that mine will be reconsidered before having to sit in front of a panel.
love to all:) xx

I find all of this interesting and helpful. I will be at the ready if i am turned down again. Only we know the true extent of our difficulties. I have a supportive network, but they all have to work including my hubby so its not 24/7 network of help. Well hope you get a better response from the DLA now. If i hear i will let you guys know. Take Care.
