Subject: RA AND BIOLOGICS - SUCCESS OR FAILURE

Hi. I dont post much on this Forum but read mostly and on how people respond to current treatments.

I have had RA for nearly 15 yrs Started on MTX DONT KNOW HOW IT HELPS but after my injection I feel a very bad flare expecially in my hands.

I was wondering if anyone has tried the new biologics treatment i.e Rituximab with any relief

Thanks

Hello Shiffy

Its not meant to be a cure for the RA patient. In fact till date i don't find any research for curing these diseases. The governments have also left the people at the mercy of these health care business establishments.

I strongly believe that when nature and science will come together, then only the people will get relief.

But who will bring them together? definitely the govt. has to do this, but then are they really interested in doing this? They don't suffer from this pain, so they don't care much about looking for a cure. But they have invested heavily in these pharma companies, so they also.......

There needs to be another revolution for the health care sector so that all the government policies are meant for the health of the public and not for the financial health of the pharma companies.

I'm SORRY TO HEAR your still in pain BSK with this condition regardless of your treatment.

PANTHER - I wish something more could be done for this disease rather than just giving us one drug after the other..

If the Governments Got more involved in helping find the cause of all diseases in great deal, then Im sure we would have more Hope than currently.

hi shiffy i am on enbrel and finding the beginning of the week after the injection for 3 days i am in a little pain about 80% better then for the rest of the week i am back to lots of pain about 20% relieve but other people have found great relieve with anti-tnf's. its a very tight criterea you have to be on methotrexate for at least 6 months i think (was the case for me) and try at least one other e.g plaquenil and sulfa

hope this helps

Hi. I have Rituximab infusions every six months. I'm feeling really well at the moment. In fact I got so used to feeling fatigued all the time I didnt realise how fatigued I was!! I did 'Race for Life' last weekend - 5k in 58 minutes .... really emotional!! I dont think it is just the Rituximab as I have been having them once a year for the past 4 years. I'm also on 3mg of prednisolone and 25mg of Lefluonomide a day.

I do have damaged wrists and shoulders but they only hurt if I accidentally bang them. I am due a shoulder operation if it deteriorates any further but I'm trying to delay this.

Biologics have worked for me (doesnt work overnight) but we are all individuals and I think there are a lot of other factors that need to be considered as well, ie stress levels, weather etc.

Good luck x

been on Cimzia for 1 year, i feel like my arthritis has gone. Of course if i work an 18 hour day which seems to happen a lot lately i might get a flare up in my finger or shoulder but paracetamol sorts this out.
I could not be happier and to think 4 years ago i was stuck upstairs unable to do anything. I even cycled from London to Brighton the other weekend :)
