Subject: People trying to use this board to sell things

Hi All,

I've had an email alerting me to the latest crop of postings from people trying to sell things or saying they have come across a new thing which 'cures' arthritis. I've removed several threads and will keep an eye on the board for more. I don't have a lot of time to oversee all the threads on this site as I do it on my own and now, through going on Anti-TNF medication, have returned to full time work. Could I ask all you lovely people who are on here a lot to act as moderators and email me at info@arthritisforum.org.uk if you spot postings saying things like 'New Cure for arthritis' or someone who is trying to promote or sell something, let me know and I will remove the threads.

If you are trying to sell stuff, please don't do it here - we are aware that there may well be miracle cures out there - if we want to learn about them we can go to youtube or google and type in 'cure for arthritis'. This site is not about looking for 'amazing' cures it is about help and support for people who have a condition that is challenging to live with. We need a space to say what's on our minds, to other people who understand because they are experiencing these challenges too.

Okay, must get back to work...!

Hi Trina will keep bumping this up for other real Arthritis sufferers. I've noticed as well that some people seem to be ' answering ' these adverts as though they seem interested - therefore trying to make it look bona fide [ probably the same person !!]

Most of us who have had some form of arthritis for a while will realise that there is no magic cure. It's the newly diagnosed that I think are very vulnerable. I can only voice my opinion on RA because thats what I've got, but I would imagine that when someone newly diagnosed with it, after reading all the info about the drugs that you have to take will explore any other option that they see. In doing this they may very well delay taking their prescribed drugs and for all of us who have RA we know that the sooner we start to take them the better the long term outcome will be.

The recent post (sales pitch) the one that I googled part of his email address and found out he was a health product retailer, remind me of when I went on a cruise a few years ago (pre RA days). We went to some sort of health talk and they were promoting a detox product that cost over $300 (American cruise line). There sales pitch was that the toxin that we put/absorb into our body everyday i.e. tooth paste, mouth wash, deodorant etc etc was harmful and if we followed their detox plan we would become healthy and any prescribed medicines, apart from one's for the heart we wouldn't need anymore. Several people bought this wonder cure, believing everything that they were told.

In the post that I am referring to, he stated that our body was full of toxins that were harmful and this build up was making our immune system low (or words to the effect) and because of this the RA got the upper hand giving us the pain. Well for us who's got RA we take drugs to suppress our immune system, because our immune system is so active it's started attacking our bodies. So he obviously knew nothing about RA.

Sorry I am going on about this but it gets me so annoyed that people prey on people with illness, making false claims just to rip them off!!!!

So we must keep an eye out for these post and report them straight away to Trina and keep this forum for the purpose it is suppose to be....Supporting each other with arthritis.
