Subject: Should Arthritic medication be free?

I know epilepsy medication is free as its for a disability that affects eveyday use but I would also put arthritic conditions in tye same category.

Ok its not the same as a fit and problems that is associated with epilepsy but it stops a lot of people from doing every day easy tasks and is a long term medication.

People have already worries about jobs etc without the financial worry of being able to find money for the drugs to help their disease.

At one point my perscriptions were costing me 24-30 every 2 months but once I got diagnosed with PA and more drugs I had to get a prepayment certificate as costs were getting out of hand

Pre payment certificates are good for people who take regular meds. I was in the chemist when a guy got a bill for 30 odd pounds and he was totally thrown and told the chemist this was going to be regular and he would have to work extra hours. I just said i hope you dont mind me saying why dont you get a pre -payment certificate, he didnt have a clue what i was talking about. When i explained he said he was going straight home to go on line and purchase one. I am shocked the pharmacy do not automatically tell people this is a cheaper option for them. (maybe they dont want people to know)The financial worry as you say is something we can all do without. I asked my pharmacist why they dont have a poster she said we do its here. Well i dont kid you binoculars would be needed to read it(LOL) Shame on them.

Lee and Marlene I think preceiptions should indeed be free once the arthur diagnosis is made. It's not fair is it ? because people can't help being ill !! I'm Diabetic and get free prescriptions so I think for any long term illness they should be free. They are all free in Scotland and Wales so why not us in the middle ?

Yes it makes me want to move to Wales lol or Scotland to just get my meds free.

Damn you English government...

I think all long term meds for a disease like this should be free so those who cant afford them can get the treatment they fully deserve

I don't really mind paying, I get good value for my money. I buy a three month pre payment card, but with planning I get four months prescriptions from it, so it works out cheaper than buying a yearly one.

What really does get me so, so annoyed is when I am in the chemist and the drug addicts come in and go into the private little booth and get their daily does of what ever it is free. They choose to take drugs, I didn't choose to get RA.

I used to get my anti depressant etc 3 months at a time to be better cost wise all the same drug etc but the Drs have said they are only allowed to give 1 months tablets at a time now same with any meds.

So every month i need to gett a repeat of all my long term drugs and any extras which yes i have a prepay now but still a major faff
