Sorry to hear this Lynn. Do you need them permanently? Are they of any help to you? I am sure in time you will get used to using them and not worry about what others think. I know it is hard though. I am 38 and have PA too.

lynn they offered me a mobiliser (i am 44) i asked for a stick it was the better of two. The mobiliser would work better but god i can't go down that road just yet. I understand and i can empathise - bloody disease - hopefully the drugs will make us less reliant on aids.

Hi Lynn, sorry to hear you feel so fed up. Use you sticks for support. I am 60 but i felt a young 60 until recently, i was stubborn no stick for me well i had a fall a few days ago, i have changed my mind my operaton site in by back has been murder since, and my hand is like a balloon i thought i had broken my wrist. Went to hydro pool to-day and i was assured it was inflammation in the wrist, thank God. Take care, i am waiting to go to pain management i dont know what it entails either, i suppose it must be worth a go. Treat your sticks as moral support like a friend LOL. I have been using mine i dont think anyone noticed, my neighbour just waved as usual.34 is young i know but just keep safe. Wishing you well, sending love your way.

lynn don't be embarresed about your stick - if it helps then it's got to be a good thing for you. Once your pain is sorted out and physio then you may not need it but look on it as an aid for the time being and you will soon get used to it. xx

Hey Lynn

How crappy having to use sticks!!! But, if they help, it's a good thing that you have them I suppose.

I had to use sticks when I was in my early 20s and I got some big pretty flower hair bobbles and tied those around them. I made the sticks an accessorie and people were impressed with how I jazzed them up. I also used to poke the gubbins that they used to put in cocktails into the holes when I used to go out clubbing with my mates. I would attempt to dance with my walking sticks and my friends thought it was brill (was maybe a bit risky to be drunk in charge of walking sticks). I embraced the emnbarrasment of it all and made it a bit of fun and people reacted brilliantly as a result.

Chin up hun
Lou x

I wish you a speedy recovery lynn.

I found one 63 years old lady from London who was suffering from Arthritis for the last 25 years and now she is living a pain free life (as she said on a website). She says that she took some herbal medicines which made the difference. If someone wants to get benefited by her experience can mail her.

aw thatnks again guys it really does help to hear your kind words, me my hasband and my 3 kids went into the supermarket they were all running off and leaving me hobbling along and i was speaking to them and no one was listening so i banged the stick down on the ground and everyone turned round and laughed so i have now been named nanny mcpee which was quite amusing, it is difficult i just never thought at my age i would be needing blooming sticks but i think they are helping so i will continue using them, and of course my kids will have a laugh along with me about it.

Hi Lynn
I'm pleased you are finding the forum supportive. We are constantly having to face difficulties with this disease. Mine started last February and was diagnosed about a year ago. They say my PsA is quite mild but I have secondary fibromialgia and Osteoarthritis in both knees. I tried Plaquenil and it didn't help and then Sulfasalazine but had bad side effects with that. I am waiting to discuss where I go from here med-wise but they don't want me on stronger immunosuppressants at the moment. I manage to keep working with naproxen (without it I am bed ridden) and I take Tramadol. I find it hard to pace myself. I often crash out at weekends after over doing it. I have bilateral tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis so even driving is uncomfortable/painful. I have had to give up doing some of the things I used to do and adapt the things I still do but I am lucky that I have a job I can pace myself in and a supportive husband who does most of the housework. I try to think about the ways I am lucky in my life and do my best to help myself stay healthy in other ways. Lynn, if you want any extra support I am happy to offer it.

hi francesca thanks alot for your kind words i do find this forum helps me i have had pa for a year now was originaly started on hydrocloqurine and arcoxia along with tramadol and paracetomol after 5 months was taken off them as i was getting worse then put onto sulphsalazine which brought me out in a nasty rash so i am waiting to see my rhumey to see what she suggests, i am in a great deal of pain, my physio is reffering me to a pain manegment group im not sure it will do any good but anythin is worth a try, i never thought that i would be using walking sticks at the age of 34 but just one of these things i suppose i to have a veryt supportive family my husband is great and my 3 kids know im not well and do help out around the house even tho there are just 8 and 6(i have twin 6 year olds) my life has been so busy with the kids so know i just go at a much slower pace which i guess is all we can do.

thanks again i ment to ask does anyone notice that there memory has deterioated?? i feel like i cannot remember a thing just wondered if it was related.

YES!!!!! My memory is appalling now. I used to be quite alert for my age - lol - not as young as you Lynn unfortunately. I also have great difficulty thinking of simple words that I want to use. It can be very frustrating but I try to laugh at myself.

Hope all goes well in the next few weeks for you with your pain management group and your rheumatologist appointment...x
