Subject: Psoriatic arthritis with Fibromyalgia

Hi
Im new to this site, but not new to psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia. I have had them both now for about 3 yrs. I also have asthma so there is no chance of me taking NSAID's, and Im allergic to codeine which means I can only have paracetamol and an anti depressant that doubles up as a pain blocker. Methotrexate and sulfasalazine both had side effects that made me feel worse so i have steroid injections twice a year. The last one was yesterday. Im scared of having them because my consultant told me that they are bad for me because of the damage they do so I waitied for 10 months before asking for the most recent one. Every day this year has been a bad one. But I wouldn't give in and have the injection until my fingers were too painful to type. That was when I bought voice recognition software. Im housebound, holidays have to be all-inclusive so that we don't have to go anywhere once we are there and the pc is my lifeline. My husband does everything in the house and works as close to full time as he can once he has got me up dressed and downstairs and I feel so bad because I cant do anything about it. I didnt want my brain to die too so I started doing an online course 2 yrs ago and apart from the difficulties of working on the course through the pain I am sad and sorry to say that its probably the only thing I have left that makes me feel good about myself. The arthritis support wiki that i posted a few days ago is part of my course work.

Jayne firstly it was sad to read your post but you sound so positive that I commend you with that ;0) You sound like you have a very nice and caring Husband which is a major plus because they are not all like that!! [ believe me !! ] I tend to get more help and sympathy from my little sister [ whose name is Jayne as well and is an absolute Angel ] I hope you can carry on being so nice and positive despite having the pain that comes with PA and Fibro. Hope you will continue to boost our morale more with stories like yours ;0)

Hi KayJay
Thank you for your lovely comments. My husband is my rock and my best friend. I know I am lucky to have him. I don't feel like I am positive or of a calibre that can boost morale. I feel drained. My injection site still hurts and i feel like I a wasting my time with uni. Your little sister sounds like she loves you very much. Look after yourself KayJay.

Jayne you might think you are not positive but your post shows that you are !! Dont beat yourself up . A lot of other members will say the same I'm sure. Have you discussed the pain with your GP or been referred to a pain clinic and or an Occupational Therapist ? Sadly these things are not always offered to us as a matter of course - we have to do all the asking I'm afraid. Fibro makes us feel very drained - I have recently been prescribed Gabapentin for Fibro and I feel 50% better than I did a few months ago !! So maybe you need a meds review ? I do hope your pain will be sorted out - keep smiling ;0)

My consultant asked my GP to refer me to pain management last year and I am still waiting. Then again my yearly appointment, which I personally think is way too long was moved to 15 months because of the snow we had! So instead of seeing the consultant in June I now have to wait until September. Is it any wonder I feel so downhearted. I'm sorry KayJay, I could go on for ever with my negativity, please forgive me.
I can't have Gabapentin because I am hypothyroid. It seems that every drug that can help me is either bad for me or I can't have because of other problems. I also have Factor V Leiden, which is a blood disorder that means my blood is thicker than normal so theres loads of stuff I can't have because of that including HRT. When I was putting the wiki together I was amazed at how much of the fibro stuff really related to me. It was like I was discovering that I wasn't crazy after all and that these things were real and not just me! Its just nice to talk to soebody who is there too and understands what it means to have fibromyalgia, never mind the PA!

Don't be sorry Jayne your story sounds like the medical's have been very unfair to you so you moan away HeHe Can your GP bring your appt forward if you explain the amount of pain you are in ? Is it ' sticky blood ' you have ? it's just that I'm on a Diabetic form and one of the members there has that.

I have Factor V (5) Leiden. Its a bit like sticky blood I think. I had my steroid injection a few days ago and asked the receptionist is she could get my old appointment back and she couldn't get me in until November! She has sent a message to the consultant though so I would have my fingers crossed if I could lol.

i will let you know if I ever hear fromm them, but I'm not holding my breath! Just a little moan, I was there last wednesday for about 20 minutes. There were no disabled spaes left and only about 5 for the whole wing, there are more taxi spaces than disabled parking spaces. I have a blue badge and it cost us £2.60 for 20 minutes. Apparantly the main car park does not have disabled spaces or give concessions.
