Subject: a question about fingers

Hey all. Just a quick question - sorry if I sound stupid, but it's genuinely worrying me. My fingers seem permanently swelled up. I can't fit my wedding rings on anymore. Does this go down - or should I expect to have pudgy fingers from now on? And sometimes it feels as though the knuckles kinda slightly dislocate - and I have to grab the knuckle between two fingers and wiggle it a bit for it to fit properly again? Is that normal? So many silly things to get used to with this condition.

Hi Gaynor. My fingers are also permanently swollen and have been since diagnosis. I can no longer wear my wedding rings either :-(. I don't get the problems with my knuckles though but they are very stiff and don't like bending too much!! I have kind of gotten it into my head that my hands will always be swollen like this. It seems we just get used to one ailment and another appears!!! Take care....x

Hello Gaynor

My fingers have changed. I wouldn't say that they are swollen but the knuckle joints have got bigger. It first happened on my right hand, then my left hand came out in sympathy and I had to take my wedding ring off (with a lot of tugging and neat washing up liquid). I no longer can get any of my rings on. I have been told that there is no bone damage to my joints (thankfully) but the OT says that my tendons are inflamed/damaged. Every morning when I wake my fingers are so painful and stiff and I can no longer make a fist with either hand. I have been given finger exercises to do to try to stop ulnar drift.

I have trouble getting change out of my purse when I go shopping, so I always give a note and then throw the change back in my bag, rather than stand there struggling and people in queue tutting behind me.

Oh the joys of RA

Paula

i have found that i only have the odd day where i dont have podgy looking fingers, im getting married in 4 weeks and have orderd the ring in the next size up in the hopes that should my finger decide to blow up more than i will be able to wear it more comfortably. Ive got a little insirt which goes inside the ring to make it fit now (it was that or wool lol)
im pleased im not the only one who has difficulty handling change in shops, i find i pay for everything using notes then just throw the change into my bag and sort it at home :)

Hmmmm ... sausage fingers it is then. I went to have my engagement ring re-sized today and they can't do it 'cos the stones continue a way around the band. Bit gutted. Wedding band still fits though. Thank God. Possibly a good excuse for a new diamond ring? (always look on the bright side and all that)!

Hi. Well I got swollen toes. Think about using votorol gel which is a good antiinflam. Also consider other alternative treatments I.e. if u can afford, buy an ultrasound machine, they are about £100 I think. Do some good research and I'm sure u can find some good advice and hopefully relief or less swelling. I hope the best for you. Let us know how u get on.

hi gaynor, my fingers are swollen as are ankles can't wear my shoes but asked doctor about the inflamation and he said that the metx should sort that out when i am on it about 4/5 weeks. Could he be wrong with all the posts here, i am thinking he might be.
