Tiger balm is great, but it's not really any better than deep heat or any other mentholated type gel or cream. It smells lovely tho and has a really warming effect.

I have recently torn my meniscus cartilage in my knee, so lots & lots of inflammation & pain, the orthopedic surgeon suggested Tiger Balm whilst we are waiting to see if it 'heals itself'?? I use tiger balm all the time anyway but was surprised a surgeon suggested it!

I'm taking Diclofenac and had no idea till i read Lorraine above that i need to watch out useing balms etc.
I don't feel like the diclofenac are helping me at all, pain wakes me in the middle of the night so could a balm help?

As far as I am aware, Tiger Balm has no neurofen or any medicinal anti-inflammatory in it. It is based on Chinese herbal medicine and is a mentholated ointment (I think it has balsam in it). So it warms and soothes, but doesn't have a medicinal quality such as found in prescription or pharmacy medication.

Hi Lorriane

I've been using Tiger Balm for a while on my ankle. It was helpful ... but now I'm using Recovery e21 Joint Health. It's a combination of Green Lipped Mussel (for pain and inflamation) with Glucosamine and chondroitin ... I'm amazed at the results. i buy it online.
