Hey all. I have to see my rheumatologist tomorrow and I am bricking it. I just feel like I'm being dismissed and I need to make her realise that I don't actually care about what my blood readings say ... all I care about is that this is wrecking my life. Fingers crossed that I manage to make her realise without me disintegrating into a blubbering wreck.

I think this feeling is shared by many of us. Medics can come across as being very dismissive. To them you are first a body which needs fixing and second a human being with an experience which is hard to bear. Good luck tomorrow. Don't allow them to set the pace of the consultation. take charge of it and don't leave until you get what you need.

hi gaynor my rheumy said that its not all to do with the bloods, more to how you feel, yes the bloods do play a part but your pain and stiffness should be addressed correctly. i'm very lucky my gp is fab and my rheumy is good to and gives great advice.
do you have someone going with you cause i find if i have someone with me i feel stronger and they can step in for me if needed at the point of braking down.

good luck

Well ... I saw my rheumy. She said hello and I said "Waaaaahhhhhhhhh". I had a proper blubbing moment. I told her I was tired of being dismissed - but it's hard to sound ferocious when you have snot dripping down your face. Anyway, after much prodding and poking she now thinks that my symptoms might be a combination of RA and Fibro. I had a spinal scan and if that doesn't show inflammation, she's sending me for a full body MRI. I do feel a bit embarassed about the melt down - but at least she got to see how I am really feeling I guess. 'Cos I'm very good at putting on the "I'm coping" face.

Gaynor glad you got your point across - snotty face or not HeHe - I was being treat for Inflammatory Arthritis but an Isoptope scan shown Osteoarthritis and I also have Fibromyalgia. The Rheumy told me that there is no meds for Fibro apart from Amytriptyline but my GP said there was and put me on Gabapentin !! [ so Mr Rhemie must have been telling lies ??? ] Anyway hope all goes well for you and you get the treatment sorted out ;0)
