Hello Sarah

If you have a look on Arthritis Care Forum

http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/forums/

Sorry the links never seem to work on here, but just type it in your address bar and you should find it, it's an open forum like this, you can read but can't post if you are not a member. Click on the Young Peoples section and there is a discussion on there about hip replacements. Have just checked and it is at the bottom of the first page of topics, if it's gone just click on previous page.

Hope it helps.

Hi Sarah

I have PsA and had my left hip replaced 9 1/2 years ago when I was 21 and my right hip replaced the following year. It was the best thing I ever did!!!

I'd never had any problems with my hips but I turned over in bed and heard and felt a snap which was apparantly a hole appearing in my cartelege and the bones were rubbing against each other, I couldn't straighten my body to stand and could not bear any weight. I had two weeks of daily hydrotherapy which got me on my feet (with a stick) and had the surgery 4 months later. I was at work within less than 3 months and believe this is because I did the physio excersises religiously before and after surgery. For about 8 years I had absolutely no pain in my hips, even during flare ups. I am just beginning to find now that if I overdo it I get a little achey in my hips but that's all. I have a great range of movement in both hips and mostly forget that I've even had the replacements.

The first couple of weeks after the op are hard going but are totally worth it. I hope you have such a positive outcome.

Kind regards
Lou x

I had my first hip replacement at age 28, due to osteochondritis as a child. Absolutely amazing. Trust me ... the post op pain is a complete walk in the park compared to the pain you experience with a degenerative hip. Absolutely go for it. It makes such a difference.
