Subject: enbrel

hi everyone. i'm new to these forums but would like to hear if anyone else has bad experience with enbrel.i have psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. just had my 3rd injection on monday morning and was in a&e by 9.30 that night. had an allergic reaction which caused my body to break out in red swollen hives and my tongue to swell. all injection sites flared up into hot swollen masses about the size of my hand.never been so scared in my life. tried to get in touch with my rheumatologist but was told he'll get back to me within 48 hours. why did this not happen after 1st injection. sent home from hospital with a whack of steroids and antihistamines to take for next 3 days. would appreciate any info or advice from fellow sufferers of PsA and Enbrel.

hi karen thanks for your comment. rheumy nurse got back to me today but got to wait till next wednesday for consultant's decision what to do next. allergic reaction may come back once the steroids stop on friday because enbrel is still in my body. it may be another trip to a&e at the weekend oh joy!
i know everyone reacts differently on enbrel so fingers crossed you're one of the lucky ones and benefit from this drug.

Hi Heather, my better half was on Enbrel for 6 months, and improving daily from an aggressive RA, but went into Renal failure, which also happened to her paternal Aunt. Now it may be a family weakness, as there is no medical evidence of this being an side effect, but its too much of a coincidence for me. Her Renal consultant has put her onto Azathioprine which is an immunosuppresant and she is coping fine and has been for 6 years.
