Subject: shin splint pain

hi all just woundered if any body suffers with shin splint pain i have it in both legs at min and have been getting the pain for several months just woundered if it could be another cause of the arthritis or weather it was just an injury

Hi Kylee, ( I used to work as an nhs chiropodist) your shin splints could be due to a variety of causes: You could have just been overdoing things. you could have tiny stress fractures ( which in theory could be due to osteoporosis which could be due to some arthritis drugs). Or could be due to your feet overpronating / flattening of arches (common in arthritis) - Check that your footwear has good arch support and doesn't need replacing and if that doesn't help then I'd advise you to see your rheumatologist, they could do x-rays, bone density scans and/or arrange for you to have some orthotics made (insoles to help hold your feet in a better functioning position). Hope you get sorted :-)

hi thanks julia im at the hospital 2moz to see my spealist so will mention it to him i am currently being treated for vasculitis of both feet as they are both extreamly cold to touch aand i have blister like lumps on my toes do you no if this could be a cause for shin splints

Vasculitis can cause pain & it can occur on your shins but it isn't a cause of true shin splints. If you don't feel very happy with your specialist's response tomorrow, ask if he'll refer you to the podiatrist/ chiropodist.

hi julia just thought would let you no spoke to my rhummy regarding shin splint pain he seems to thin the pain is connected to the vasculitis problem and thinks the arteries in legs could also be flaring causing shin split like symptoms he is running test at presents for vascular lupus fingers crossed its negative thanks again for advise
