Subject: OA hippy newby

Hi
I was diagnosed with OA of the right hip in Dec 2010 after a false sciatic one.
The physio gave me exercises, which have helped, and the doctor Codeine Sulphate which do work but causes me serious constipation, so I tend to soldier on without them!!
I have a couple of questions for the veterans.
Firstly how do you manage to put your sock on.
Secondly should I be thinking of a hip replacement sooner rather than latter.
Lastly is there any magic elixir

Hi
I'm a physio (with RA)and unfortunately not a veteran!
do you have access to an occupational therapist? they have a great wee getting-socks-on gadget, which is pretty helpful - it is an awkward manoeuvre!
are you taking glucosamine and chondoitrin as supplements, there isnt enough evidence for the Drs to reccomend them but i've known lots of people to swear by them.
good luck!

Hi Nicola
Thanks for the info on the sock gadget.
Yes I am taking glucosamine but not chondrin, I will add this to my list.

Hi Kazzie
Strewth, you make me feel like a fraud, but then so many of you do. I am in my mid seventies and have had a reasonbly active life.
Was the hip replacement offered or did you have to push for it?
