Subject: methyl prednisolone infusion

hi i am having a steroid infusion of prednislone and just wondering if anyone else has had this?
what are the side effects and how it affected you during the infusion and how long it took to go in and how long it gave you relieve for?

as my meds aren't working my rheumy wants to put me on a new med cocktail, not sure what it will be but until then she wants to help with the infusion.

thanks in advance

Hi Davina I had the same infusion about a year ago and you just sit in a chair while its put in your arm through a drip. I felt really tired after wards because of the stress of it and went home to bed which is the best thing you can do. It had no affect for me but when i was in hospital having it done a lot of the other patients go every month/ year to have it done so it must work for some people. Steroids have lots of side affects as you probably know, during the summer my big toe nails fell off but that was it. Good luck and i hope it works for you.

Hi davina I'm new to this forum and I'm on sulpfasalazine and mtx and have been having a massive flare since the beginning of December. I went to my docs and mentioned having infusions and said he'd never heard of that for arthritis so gave me a 6 day course. My dad had infusions for 4 days and said it worked wonders. Hope it works for you. I'm at the docs now so gonna show him. Are you in the UK?

nicci yes i am in dover, kent. your doctor must be hard to deal with if he won't help you. my gp called my rheumy because i complained about the pain and she looked at me and agreed something had to be done.
i have been on prednisolone since June last yr, from 30mg now down to 7.5mg, i asked about increasing the pills again and they didn't want me too has i've put on 2 stone in 9 months and i hate it being 17 stone is hard and with not losing my baby weight its not good with this disease.

I'm in Essex. It's my gp who thought infusions were extreme. He has given me another lot of pred on a weaning.dose for another 5 days. He's gonna call my rheumy to get me seen sooner as I'm not due to see him for ages my next app is with the mtx nurse in 2 weeks. How old is your baby? Mine is 8months tomorrow. so hard to pick her up sometimes. do you have much help?

anything from a week to 5 weeks ruffly, i'll see.
is the mtx nurse only for the meds or can she help with all the aspects of ra?
my rheumy nurse normally helps with it all so hopefully your one will to. i am sorry you don't get much help but have you joined your local sure start group/ health visiting team as i have been offered help with general living and cleaning ect.. by the volunteering team, i declined it at the moment but when my partner goes back to work i'll see how i cope. the sure start team is fab and so informative.
i hope you get your appointment soon, you could ring them and ask your rheumy to contact you back.
i have got an emergancy appointment for 2morrow with my rheumy, i quess to start a new treatment.

hi nicci i will be starting embral in about 3 wks so well see. the infusion as well and truely stopped helping now, back to my pains and stiffness.
i hope the pred helps soon, i'm on a reducing dose of pred and on 7.5 which just doesn't help at all so i increase once a week to 15mg just to pull me through.
hope plaquenil works for you and your well

take care. x
