Subject: Gabapentin?

Hey all. My doc is messing with my meds and has suggested that I try gabapentin. Well .. I've been on it for a week now (300mg, 3x a day) and it seems to be doing NOTHING. Any thoughts? Does it take a while to kick in or something?

i was on it for 3 weeks and the only benefit i felt was that i was sleeping better. Its a muscle relaxant, with similar properties to amytriptiline. It is suppose to take a few weeks to have any majoy benefits, but to me even just being able to sleep was an improvement. Bare with it and hopefully it will do something for you soon xx

Been precribed this med for Fibromyalgia today by my GP. She was surprised by his statement that " there is no other meds for Fibro apart frm Amytriptyline " !! Will let you know how I go on with it. It seems a bit complicated with the dosage but my GP has written it down for me. Gaynor are you any better ? I know that you have to gradually increase it over about 10 days.

i had to increase it by one tablet a week for 3 weeks then stay at 3 a day. Ive had to stop taking it since i found out im pregnant though.
In america they also give gabapentin to people who are cannabis dependent as a substitute to try and get them off it. It has similar properties to cannabis, which also helps people with arthritis due to it being a muscle relaxant, hence it helps you sleep, haha. X

Thanks for all your comments. I'm persevering here. I wrote a very direct letter to my doc today about being "dismissed". We shall wait and see what comes of it.

Well Gaynor been on this med for 4 days and had 2 Migraine attacks so feelin pretty crap at the mo. I don't know if it's coincidence as I'm prone to Migraines anyway but not had 2 so close together before I started with Amytriptyline. Will persevere as much as I can but the meds for Migraine just make me want to sleep. Arghhh !! How's it going for you ?
