Subject: Reducing Pendisilone and fertility
Hi. I'm a 40 year old Man who has had RA for 10 years. I've been taking steroids all of this time. My consultant is keen to say the least for me to come off the steroids and go onto Methatrexate. The only problem my wife and I are trying to conceive a baby. Recently I was told of a natural remedy called CMO+ which you take for a month and can be free from pain for two years. The only problem you have to be off steroids for 6 wk's. I managed to get myself down to 4mg when I had a major flare-up the worst I've had in years. My wife having to undress me and severe pain even when sitting and in all of my joints. I have been really down, my confidence knocked. My GP suggested a week on 30mg but this feels like such as step back. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to manage these flare-up's without relying so heavily on steroids. Thanks Mark

Forgot to ask. Does anyone know if doses of steroids in the 30mg region effect fertility. Thanks

hi sorry can't help that much but i have been told that steroids are quite safe during pregancy and not heard of any fertility problems. i am on prednisolone and at 10mgs but have to go up if i have a flare i have to increase to about 15mg i think you need to find the right dose for your body at the moment and stick with that or reduce that as you start another med. have you tried another meds cause plaquenil and sulpheersazine are relatively save during conception i believe. hope this helps davina. good luck t/c

hi there Mark Sawyer-Todd, i have been on steroids for about 15 years now and i have been on as high a dose as 60mg a day i am currently on 12.5mg a day and have been on that for the past 7 to 8 years with frequent times when i have had to up the dose considerably, as for fertility i have fathered 2 children in that time, also i was told by one gp that in some cases steroids are used in low doses to help fertility, the cmo+ has had some very bad press and that is just a gimmick that just eats your money, pete

Thanks. Sounds hopeful for fertility. I have a daughter who is 2 but was on very low dose steroids when she was concieved. Pete do you have osteoporosis? I've been diagnosed with it and have been told I need to take more med's now. My consultant is putting presure on me to come of steroids and I feel despairing juggling this with family life and work. I have tride sulphasalazine but it didn't help the pain and did effect my sperm quality. Thanks for your responses they help knowing others out there know something of my struggle.
