hi there jan, it all depends on how much pain you are in, because as soon as you start physio your pain will probably get wrose, whenever i have been in hospital the docs say that you should keep the painkillers up as it will help with the physio, i am a 43 year old who has had rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis for 32 years i have it everywhere even my jaw and i would be lost without my medication, pete

Hi Jan - I'm in the same boat with having just been diagnosed with arthritis. Like you, I'm having to learn lots of stuff. Peter .... what meds work the best for you. I've been having to take morphine and codeine for a long time with another mobility disability - but to be honest they don't seem to do much for the arthritic pain. This is a whole different beast. It's just constant and it's getting me down majorly. Any suggestions?

hi gaynor, i am on tramadol painkiller, diclofenac anti inflamatory, prednisolone (steroids), enbrel anti tnf injection, also a number of others for spin offs from the arthritis, thge problem with the painkillers is they only help the pain and dont reduse the inflamation, i bet if they checked your inflamation marker when you have a blood test it would be high, hope this helps, pete

hi kazzie, i try to look at taking the drugs just as a means to an end, i also have to take 3 different blood pressure drugs, 1 for my prostate and 2 for osteoporosis, also if i didnt take them i wouldnt function at all, when i first had arthritis i was in a wheelchair for 18 months and the drugs make it so i am not back there just yet, try keep smiling, pete
