Subject: Fatigue

Hi, I am 28, male, have had PA for about 5 years. I am dealing with moderate joint pain in one foot, one shoulder and neck + have minor skin troubles. But, the worse part of my condition at present is the fatigue. I find everyday to be a struggle with constant tiredness and a need not to do simple things that are not to taxing at all. I hear fatigue can be a problem but how do you find this? do you have the same problem?

hi im a 24 for your old female i have sero negative arthritis and like you a suffer with very bad fatigue i find it so hard to find the energy in the mornings no matter how much sleep i have had.i find myself pushing myself everyday to try and live a normal life for my 3 yr old daughter i think its especialy hard to get your partners and loved ones to understand just how tired you feel especialy when you have just woke up from a good 8hrs sleep and then you make yourway down stairs and find it hard not to fall asleep again. i gave up work 3 yrs ago s i couldnt cope with the pain and tiredness and work life. i have noticed over the last 6months im hving to have naps on the sofa in the afternoon while my daughter is having her afternoon sleep. i do feel guilty when all i want to do is sleep and my daughter and husband just doesnt understand why or how tired i realy am.
i also suffer with spots. i dnt no if its because i feel so run down or if its the arthritis drugs maybe its a bit of both.
since my flares haave been controled by the drug enbrol i am finding the fatigue espeacialy hard to cope with as i find i caan also be very moody and i dnt mean to be most the time i dnt even no im snapping at people.
when you tell people you have arthritis they truely dnt understand how the diease affects you mentaly and physicaly. i find it hard to think about my future as i think to myself im only 24 now and i find everything such a struggle how will i cope in another 10 or 20 yrs time.

Well I guess we just gotta get on and make the most of the life we got. I've learnt to try my best (even tho its hard) to keep thinking positive. Otherwise the anxiety and depression kicks in. I'm trying to keep active, but as we've discussed, this can sometimes be hard. I had a flare up yday and its ongoing, I hope it'll subside shortly cos im struggling in work :-( not sure if im entitled to any finacial help either?

Kylee ... you are so right about people not understanding. I work in the field of disability and I thought I had a good understanding of arthritis - until it happened to me. The fatigue aspect is quite something, isn't it. Jon, if you aren't claiming Disability Living Allowance, you should really go for it. But, get some help from someone who understands those forms and what they are looking for - because they can be a right bugger to fill in (is that an AMEN I hear from everyone on the forum?). It's worth it though. Sorry to hear you had a flare up Jon. You aren't alone with the reactive depression and anxiety. Some days I find it helpful to just live 15 minutes at a time. Don't get overwhelmed by trying to cope with the whole day - just go from 15 mins to 15 mins. Also ... VERY IMPORTANT ... declare your disability to your employer and make contact with Access to Work (google them). They can provide you with equipment and enabling support that can help you in employment. It doesn't cost you anything.

Hi all,
Totally agree with the comments above the fatigue bit of the disease is even more hidden than the arthritis. I'm 32 and have had my arthritis since I was 11 months old. I've been on Humira for 3 years now and have found it has helped with the fatigue.
Definately put in a claim for DLA but do get help with the forms - there's a leaflet on one of the arthitis website - arthritis care I think.
Cat naps are good - may give you a bit more energy. Are you eating healthy and are your iron levels good? Low iron can lead to more fatigue.
Also google "the spoon theory" this really helped me come to terms with my arthritis and how each task takes so much more planning and effort than for others.
Keep talking and know that you are not alone.
Take care honey :)
