Yes it was about 3 years ago by the GP. She referred me to the Rheumatology dept and I'm still having tests to pin down what's really wrong. So it can take quite a long time Helena sorry to say. Ask your GP to refer you to the Rheumatology dept. Your GP may be able to prescribe something to help with the neck pain, insomnia and Migraines [ that's how my Fibro affects me most ] my GP gave me Amitriptyline and they have worked wonders for me.Good Luck ;0)

Pain clinic diagnosed me with arthritis Im on pregablin cocodomol trazadone and promethazine for sleep my problem is mainly insomnia, pain and stiffness. But xrays did not show arthritis and now my GP wont refer me to rheumatologist. Very frustrating as I want a proper diagnosis. Been suffering now for 15 years but have become much worse following a hysterectomy 2 years ago. Feel at dead end. Thanks for your comments tho might change GPs!

Yes Helena I should !! It is every patients right to be referred to a Consultant. I would contact your local P.A.L.S office or Citizens Advice if your GP still refuses. I've had XRays that are normal and just recently I had an Isotope Bone Scan and get the results of that next month. I'm sure I've read Helena that having op's can cause Fibro to be worse - it's very frustrating when even the experts don't understand an illness. But I've been 50% better since I started Amitriptyline as it's great for nerve pain. Good Luck ;0)

Thank you Kay Jay, my mental health team (as I was recently suicidal) have written to my GP as have I today to request a referral, couldnt go and see GP again as was worried I would collapse into hysterical tears yet again or get abusive as am so fed up of not being taken seriously! Pregablin doesnt seem to be helping with the nerve pain but recent course of diazapam has made it a bit more bearable. Plus have started some energy healing based on reflexology, she has had good results with people with fibro, very grateful there is a site like this to share experiences.

Hope you get a solution soon Helena perhaps the GP should be changed ? You know I'm so lucky to have the GP that I've got she's is a proper caring GP and has been with the practice for years. I dread the day she retires because she has looked after me and my family so well. Good Luck ;0)

Helena it is your right to be refered. Change your gp you may find you have less faith in your current one following this anyway. Have you been refered to a pain clinic? Might also be worth considering. Please dont give up youll look back in time and realise how far youve come keep talking to those who give you good support and get a gp who is worthy of you xxx

Hi Helena, i hope you are feeling a bit better, i havent been on here before but after reading what you had written i thought i would let you about me. I was diagnosed with fibro in december last year, my doctor was brilliant and he tried lots of meds but nothing worked till i had amatriptyline, it really helps with the pain and sleeping. I also have RA and take Mtx and steriods and i have found that they all help keep the fibro at bay. I think another doctor might b the way to go. Good luck. Nicki
