Subject: Prescription charges & duration

Hi All,

My partner has just been diagnosed with RA/Sjogrens. She has been prescribed Hydroxychloroquine as well as a variety of other toothpastes and lubricants to treat the dryness associated with the Sjogrens, but the Doctor is only prescribing a month's supply at a time so the costs are mounting up and says this is the most he can do.

Does anyone have experience of being given longer term prescriptions to ease the costs?

Ross

I pay £104 for a yearly prescription card, so you can get all your meds and anything else you need on prescription with out having to pay anything else. It saves me a fortune, my monthly prescriptions used to add up over £70 a month I wouldnt be without it, and you can also get a 6 month one which not sure how much that one is but you pharmacy will tell you. 104 POUNDS FOR THE YEAR? I pay 120euro a month(i live in ireland) which is about 100 pounds a month. I cant work but cant get what is called a medical card due to not having a morgage!! worked hard when i could and sold my house so i could get a bungalow so it would be easier for me and was able to sell and buy one and rid ourselves of that burden, but im paying for it now, im feeling so down about it, was at the physio last week and i need insoles for my feet and they cost about 120 euro. sorry had to moan

sandra so sorry to hear that you have to pay so much ? Why - is it because of the EU?

We have just had to sell my Mum's house to pay for her Nursing Homes Fees @ £2000k + per month despite her working all her life and paying NI's and her need for Nursing Care. We are in the UK.

Kayjay we have a different health service here, i didnt mention that i have to pay 20 euro to have my blood test done which at moment is every 2 weeks, and if i need to see the doctor thats 50euro. so you dont want to be sick to often. I had to spend 2 days in hospital and that cost 120euro.
