vicki I'm sure someone mentioned recently the chest pain while on MTX ? I'm not on that so can't advise you there but I do have arther in my ribs which can be quite painful and scary - before the gp told me about this I thought I was having a heart attack. Hope some can put you stright about the MTX connection

hi vicki. i've had ra for 41 yrs. your doc is rite. that is not rheumatoid pain. sorry to tell u that. i would b nervous also. maybe check out to see if what your experiencing is side effects from the methotrxate.one way to find out if it is a side effect from the methotrexate is to stop right away and if it is those symtoms will start disappearing in a few days. take care and keep in touch. dolly

hi vicki i dont recomend you stop taking your methotrexate unless you have consulted your doctor, but what you have described is some thing i have had dont know why but if it continue go to the doctors dont worry about it as that will only make things worse

hi vicki. should of told u why i sugggested to try and stop the methotexate. when i tried it, i was on it for about 6 or 7 weeks. i started to get numbness from the left side of my face to my toes. i told my doc and both agreed to stop MXT and 4 days later the numbness started to go away. i meant for u to have an agreementwith your doc first. i've heard about quite a few side effects from mxt. i wouldn't try that 1 again.

Dolly many thanks for replying to me, it has been a long hard slog to get to where I am. I have a look at the side effects of the mxt and there are some too many that I am experiencing!!
My veins are constantly raised did you get this at all? I do not want to be a pain by asking questions. I can't wait to see my new rumi. What
meds have you tried and can you recommend any?

Thanks again Dolly

hi vicki. i feel very sad when i read some of these stories on this site because i know exactly how these people feel. like i said, i've had RA for 41 years and it took my docs quite awhile ti find meds that really helped and i didn't have to change them so many times. i've been on 1 med called prednisone for about 30 years. it's a very good anti-inflammatory, i would say i feel is the best anti-inflammatory out there but has side effects just like all RA meds do. what i find good about prednisone is when you "flare up" you can increase the dose for a couple of days and it helps the flare up alot, then you can go right back to your regular dose. the other med i'm on is humira [self injection] which i've been on for about 6 years and works well for me. i've been on so many that i can't remember what they were called. the ones i do remember are mxt, gold shots, remicade, enbrel and at least another dozen or so. the one that i remember that worked the best was remicade. remicade is given by an iv drip. when it was given to me i woke up the next day with no pain what so ever. i asked my nurse if i was awake and of course she looked at me strange, then i explained why. but i kept getting kidney or bladder infections so the doc stopped remicade and the infections stopped. remicade, enbrel and humira are all similiar so i could suggest that anyone with RA to ask their rheummy about it. they didn't have these kind of meds when i first was diagnosed with RA so yes i have alot of joint damage which led to alot surgeries[30 to be exact] joints replaced and removed.today they have meds to prevent alot of joint damage. one thing i learned vicki is to have alot and i mean alot of patience which i did not have before. i hope i've answered some questions but if you have other questions please feel free to ask. anyone reading this please feel free to ask. i really do want to be helpful because i wouldn't wish this disease on anyone, not even my worst enemy if i had one. take care vicki and keep in touch, sincerely dolly
