Subject: RA: Methotrexate and/or Enbrel

Hey, I've been on MTX for just over a year now, I've switched from tablets to injections because of the nausea. MTX has really improved my life, my joints are not painful, of course I get them bad days(esp during winter) but its worked wonders. Its the nausea thats really bugging me, I would take it on weekends to sleep off the side effects, which sucks as I'm only 18 and want to enjoy my weekends. Also I do want kids in the future, I had a miscarriage already. Anyway, docs are thinking of switching me to Enbrel (etanercept) (plus 2 tablets of MTX a week, although I prefer the MTX to be out of my system fully, but hey its a start). Anybody else been in a situation similar to me and can give me info on this Enbrel drug or just any info at all really? I would LOVE for this nausea to go away, but I also want my joints to function as well as it has with MTX, is this Enbrel drug as effective? Please give any feedback thank you.

Hi! I am 23 yrs old and also suffer from RA. I was diagnosed 4 years ago, was put on NSAIDS (Naprosyn 500mg) and a weekly dose of 10mg of methotrexate. It worked well until recently, when my pain increased about 2.5 folds despite increasing my methotrexate dose to 15mg a week and taking 2 tablets of Naprosyn daily. The doctor proposed Remicade but it has very serious possible complications and I am not willing to risk it. I am starting to look into diet and arthritis and would like to try an anti-inflammatory diet. I am just wondering if it would work for me because growing up, I was never allergic to anything (except for alcohol intolerance). Still, I am willing to give the diet a try.

Has anyone tried the anti-inflammatory diet to try to reverse arthritis? Would be glad to hear your accounts.

hey karen

i have psoriatic arthritis and have been on enbrel for 8 years. I have never had any side effects and PA symptoms were improved so much that I would forget that I had arthritis at all, even though I have it so bad that I had to have hip replacement surgery 10 years ago! I had my first baby in Septemeber and took the enbrel right up until having a positive pregnancy test. My rheumy believes that it would be safe to take enbrel during pregnancy but, as there is so little research onto the effects it was best to stop straight away.

Hope all goes well Karen
