Subject: Inflammatory Osteoarthritis

Hello, all. I am new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone here has been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis? My blood work shows inflammation but I am negative on the RA factor. My left wrist is swollen, my feet were so painful I couldn't walk, lot of stiffness, etc. Right now I am on Plaquenil for the inflammatory osteoarthritis. Have Fibro and "Generalized Osteoarthrits", too, or so they say...

Hi Vanessa. I started with OA years ago then about 6 years ago I was diagnosed with Fibro. After a blood test I went to the Rheumies and the blood test shown a high RF factor. Anyway they put me on Hydroxy [ or Plaquenil ] as well and had been on it for about 6 months but I was still getting symptoms of RA / Inflammatory Arthritis and had more Xrays and blood tests so the Rhuemie Nurse rang me the other day to tell me to stop the Hydroxy and the Consultant will see me in Feb [ apparently he's been called for jury service !! ] and if I have any problems to contact them before.

I must admit had not heard of Inflammatory Osteoarthritis before ? But I do remember the Nurse telling me that Inflammatory Arthritis is a hard one to treat more so than Rheumatoid Arthritis ? Anyone heard that one before ?

Thanks for your input, KayJay. I don't know what is going on. My wrist is really swollen. Sometimes it hurts...a lot...and sometimes it barely hurts at all. I can't play guitar anymore...hurts when I try to chord, which is a bummer. Sometimes I wonder if they know what I have.....seems like he is waiting and watching and just still sorting it all out. Is that possible? I know there is also such a thing as seronegative RA, but then there are also hundreds of weird autoimmune disorders. I think they give Plaquenil for Lupus, too. Oh, my...some day maybe we will figure it out. Let us know how your visit goes...in February. Good Grief! We need more rheumies!!!

Hi Vanessa. I really think you should ask to be referred to an Occupational Therapist as they WILL be able to help with your wrist. They did with mine and gave me a wrist splint / resting splint [ which is fab ] and other stuff too like a high toilet seat and a shower board. Ask your Rheumie doc or Nurse to refer you to one. The OT's are really nice and they will do all they can to help you get back to playing your guitar !!!

It took about 2 years of me going to the Rheumie clinic before I got a firm[ish] diagnosis. I've got a high Rheumatoid factor but a negative ccp ??? Good Luck :)

Happy Thanksgiving, KayJay! We are having a non-traditional Thanksgiving this year because Dad is here and he doesn't like turkey! We are having lasagna, salad, homemade clover rolls and pumpkin bread. I have everything done...the lasagna is in the refigerator waiting to be cooked, the salad is made, the pumpkin bread is made and the rolls are rising. I even have the table set, but now I am TIRED. LOL I took a pain pill last night, and I really think that made all the difference this monring. I was able to do what I needed to do. I see my NP on Monday. I am going to ask her exactly what the MRI on my wrist showed. The orhtopedic doctor just said an inflammed nerve. The Rheumy said an inflamed nerve and arthritis. Sigh. Why are they so closed-mouthed these days?!? All I know is I cannot play my guitar and I am going to ask about it. I do have a wrist splint I wear sometimes and it helps a lot when it is hurting. I don't know if they can do anything to help, but I will ask. Thanks for the idea! Not being able to play does make me a little sad. Peace to you and yours, KayJay. V
