Subject: DLA & Occupational health assessment

I've been turned down for DLA again! Signed off sick for another 4 weeks and work want me to have an occupation health assessment. If its a good day and I do well they'll ask why I've been off sick for so long and if I do badly they can say I'm not up to the job and get rid of me. Either way I feel I'm being stitched up and don't know how I'm gonna manage on £79pw sick pay. I'm changing to a job share for 18.5 hrs pw so if I don't get DLA I can't get WTC either or council tax. I don't qualify for ESA as I haven't been off 28 weeks (yet) all in all I just feel totally let down by a system supposed to care for the sick and vulnerable. Also I'm 54 and now have to work til 66 and pay more for it as I'm in the public sector.
Sorry to moan but after 16 weeks on MTX my inflammation levels have only dropped one point so I'm finding really hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel at the mo and every time I try to do anything I spend the next day in pain. Just needed to let this out without going through the pain of holding the telephone for ages trying to speak to advisors who sympathise but can't suggest what else I can do. (Grrr!! there I feel better already. Thanks all for listening x)

Hi Shirley, got a union at work? That's where you should go. If not, can you join one? A friend of mine joined and got help and info the same day! Guess it depends on your profession.

Did you get help from CAB for DLA? You must go to them and ask or another advice agency. Sometimes a social worker from the council can help you do the forms as well. Don't give up. You've got try and get the support you need. It's hard but fight for it.

Also, if you go on arthritis care website discussion forum there is a working matters link. Lots of well informed peeps on there so you might get some advice and help.

Would you also be eligible for Working Tax Credit ? Good luck with the DLA and yes it's best to ask for expert help - I only got mine through the CAB having failed the 1st time.
