Subject: Has the flu jab knocked you sideways???
I had mine on Saturday and have been 'fine' by our standards, not even a pain and dead arm where the needle had gone in, then last night BANG! Boy do I feel rough. Last night I was itching all over more than usual, really thirsty, aching from head to toe more than usual - I guess everything you would have if you had the flu..... I don't think I've ever had a 'conventional' flare-up like many of you have described with the red/hot joints etc I just get exhausted and wiped out with exceptionally stiff joints...... Do you think this is just a flare up or a flu jab induced bought of flu? If that makes sense? xxx PS Has anyone noticed the longer you spend posting on here the harder it is to add up the numbers at the bottom of your submission!!!! Or maybe thats the wine - only joking, its only 1.30pm...!!

Hi Scaryfeet, I'm glad you raised this as I've never had a flu jab but have been wondering if I should. I hope you get some ideas from others who have experience of this and start to feel better soon. x

I had a really bad flare after my flu jab. They warned me I might but didn't really expect it to happen. My knee was so bad I had to have a steroid injection in it. And my rheumy put my oral prednisilone up. So yes is the answer, you probably are having a flare. You can't get flu from a jab but can feel 'fluish' lol! yes! 1 + 1 = 3

I know Lynn. I wonder if that is why I flared this year, having them together and not last year when I had them separately....? Hadn't thought of that and will mention it to my rheumy when I see him next - if I remember lol! Too much stuff to cram into a 10 min appt! Sally

Sally, make your appt last a bit longer, I just keep asking questions when the nurse is trying to usher me out, dont let them rush you... T.C. Caroline, you should make sure you get the flu jab its very important, especialy if you are on any of the biologicals or tnf because they lower your immune system and you are prone to any infections.

I was offered the jab but they advised that i had it in three parts so that it doesn't knock me for six.. was due to have part one yesterday but decided that i needed to wait until after my wedding - it would just be my luck, so will have it done week after next

Caroline, it depends on your meds whether you will be more prone to infection. Some meds lower your immune system - it's how they control the disease - so you will be more susceptible to flu. Lynn, I do stretch my appt out. My last nurse one was 45 minutes. But one just forgets things every time!

I have seronegative R A. Which has been in remission for over 2 years. After having the flu jab this year, which included the swine flu vaccine, I started to develop stiff joints, particularly my knees, have seen my G P and he has put me on anti inflammatories,he says if this doesn't work,I will have to go back on DMARDS. MTX etc.which I was on for seven years. My bloods are normal.
