Subject: Positive Rheumatoid Factor

Hi, I'm 29 and I started to get occasional joint pain about a year ago and it has become a lot worse in the last month (swollen knees, thumbs, knuckles). I had blood tests which revealed a slightly raised rheumatoid factor (everything else normal). My GP said they wouldn't diagnose RA at this point and prescribed Diclofenic and told me to come back in a month. I don't really feel happy with this advice as the pain is really starting to affect my ability to live normally and I worry what damage may be done to my joints without other treatment. I also get irritable eyes and chest pain. Anyone got any views on if I should seek further medical advice sooner than a month or wait and see what the diclofenic does? thanks

I was diagnosed with Rheumatic Arthritis in 2002, and given diclofenac to ease the pain and inflammation. As soon as I started taking the diclofenac, it seems the RA got worse and after a while, I was also offered methotrexate. I refused it though because I was very worried about the toxicity of these drugs. I am a befriender at my local hospital, and have seen first hand what these drugs can do ie. liver and eye damage etc. etc. I did a lot of research on the internet and came across an American medical website, which has information and support about a safe, low-cost treatment for rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, and related diseases. The particular treatment focuses on antibiotic therapy, which has proven safe and effective. I made contact with them, and then targeted my GP with my evidence. Then, I walked like I was 80 and felt like I was 90 (I am 48). I was tired, in pain, and depressed. Luckily, he was very open-minded about it all and prescribed the antibiotic, and within weeks I felt like I had been reborn. To cut a long story short...the antibiotic worked for me and in a very short time and almost all my pain was gone. There is only one consultant in the UK, who will deliver this type of treatment, and like myself, there are many people who visit and have never looked back. I still work full-time, and do everything that had been part of my life before this disease came in. And it has given me the unshakeable belief that there ARE answers if we care to seek them - using patience, discrimination and wisdom. And, most of all, if we make a commitment to educate ourselves and to case-manage our own healing, finding and using expertise that makes sense to us, rather than unquestioningly putting our wellbeing and healing in the hands of those who will not step (or even look) outside the square of medical orthodoxy. Please feel free to contact me.

Hello Elaine,
If you like, I can email you some information on the research I have done. There is only one doctor in the UK that follows this protocol and I can also put you in touch with him. Drop me an email and I will forward it to you or we can arrange to have a chat. My email address is gfilipe@hotmail.co.uk.

hi All,
modern medicine do not have any cure for RA. Most of the medications have side effects and are harmful in long run. I have benefited greatly from ancient indian way of medicine i.e ayurvedic medicine ,panchakarma therapy and a strict vegetarian diet .All the swelling and pain is gone.My RA factor was negative and my ESR was very high 56. After the treatment the ESR has come down to 16. Hence please check if there is an authentic ayurvedic therapist in your locality.

I need to know what antibiotic you were given and if I could go to my GP for this as I cannot take any of the regular treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis as I get the bad side effects and so I am not on anything and climbing the walls with pain and can't sleep and so the GP won't offer me anything else. I can't even take the pain killers co-dydramol as they make me ill.

Hi doreen sorry to hear your in pain have you tried the anti tnf injections they are the new biological meds abd have less side effects tham most other meds we take. Theyy are hard to get them prescribed because they are so expensive so they specialists don't tell you about them you have to ask . I take enbrel and they have been very good for me. They don't take away all the pain but it foes reduce it and the flare ups are not as bad. I have RA too. Hope this helps

If this antibiotic therapy is so good why aren't all our RA docs giving it to use, because my RA doc told me it doesn't work in the long term plus it hasn't been tested enough over here to show any significant improvement in RA symptoms.I'm sure our docs don't want to see us suffer.

wot the heck is antibiotic therapy?? we all get bad side affects of the terrrible tocix meds we take, but also they r helping at the same time....between the Devil and the deep blue sea.... Also Dorren, just so that U kn ow...amy antibiotic treament u get...can make u sick too!! I was on antibiotics 24/7 4 three weeks to kill off any infection in my body......also had Three seprate types of antibiotics going all at the same time for 24/7.....this in turn caused me to have C.Diff....heard of that? the antibiotics kill offf all the goood flora within the stomach, and the bad that we also Need and have Multiply....causing C.diff in my cases..... so any antibiotic treamtent u get, will be very small.....remember Doreen, what r the side affects of u having R.A....? I know wot it is, its callled Pain!! so to NOT take the meds, unless they r killing u, in my opinion is daft! ech to there own i guesss....gooood luck
