Subject: Fear iv messed up my Methotrexate injections

Hi all iv been on my injections for a 4 weeks now and iv taken my 4th injection today but when I pulled put the needle there was a slight bit of liquid left in the shringe, does this mean I have messed up my dose or will I be ok? hi there, i was on methotrexate for over a year. if there was only a very small amount left in the syringe then you should be absalutely fine.

as for injecting on the same side of your stomach, can cause irritation but i dont know for shore as i never did this.

Thanx for the reply Sarah,

Yeah there wasn't loads of liquid left but more than there normally is,
An I guess I'll just have to inject on both sides, I suppose it's something you get used to

You can try jabbing into your upper thigh if that helps. My tummy hurts more one side than the other and I do Enbrel injections too so I do MTX into thigh and Enbrel into tum.
You've had a slightly smaller dose this time but it isn't the end of the world - it'll just make you more aware next time!

Weird that how 1 side hurts more than the other isn't it?
I'm always scared of injecting the full air bubble from the syringe even though the nurse assured me that this was ok o still find it a little scary

Curtis don't know if this is of any help but I'm on a Diabetes forum and I was wondering if there would be any help there for you about injecting ? I know Type 1 Diabetics have to do this with Insulin [ I'm Type 2 ] but I just thought they may be able to give you advise about it ? Or just contact your Rheumatology Nurse they should be able to help you ? Hope you get it sorted - best thing is not to worry though ;0)

The link for the Diabetes Forun is :

And they are a great group of helpful peeps ...

no problem! :)

i had the same problem with the idea of injecting the air bubble!! sometimes i couldn't resist carefully tipping it upwards and letting a small amount out! :S

I injected into my thighs but i also found it very difficult to inject into my left thigh and it hurt so much more!! just got to try and relax as best you can and make sure your getting it in at the angle. i found that if i pinched the skin downwards so to speak it hurt alot less!!

good luck :) sez

I suppose it's just a case of trial an error trying to find a way that's comfy an not to painful, I used to av a phobia of needles so i ain't doin to bad injecting myself at all lol, so does it matter if I get some of that air out before i inject?

I know exactly what your saying about injecting in the same place every time, i've been injecting Enbrel for 4 weeks now and I've always put it in the right hand side lol but tonight I thought I'd give it a go in the left......talk about making it hard work, I was sat for 15 mins gearing myself up to stick it in, then I couldn't stop laughing at myself for how silly I must of looked lol, I eventually did it and I honestly dunno why I was making such a fuss lol!

yeah trial and error i think is the best way! you are definately doing really well if you have a phobia of needles!! i have had millions of blood tests and injections throughout my life since i can remember and even i struggle sometimes!!

i dont think there is anything wrong with letting a bit of air out? before i got my methotrexate from a different manufacturer i had to attatch the needle seperatly and was instructed to let as much air out as possible! so i cant see it being a problem!
