Subject: BIG improvement with my rheumatoid arthritis ( Self Help )

I am 40 and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 11 years ago causing a lot of pain particularly to my knees . I had a bad reaction to the RA drugs so have only been receiving pain relief .

After doing some research on alternative treatments I began taking a course of vitamins about 5+ months ago :

* Glucosamine sulphate ( 1000mg a day for the first 3 months and then 500mg a day ) If you havent heard of Glucosamine sulphate yet just goole it .

* Cod liver oil ( 800mg a day )

* Calcium ( 400mg a day )

* Vitamin C ( 500mg a day )

* I also included light step exercises most days .

I didn't know what improvements to expect and was hoping at best it may slow down the deterioration of my joints . HOWEVER I'm blown away by the improvements especially to my knees , for the first time in many years I can now sleep face down with my knees on the mattress without that uncomfortable / annoying throbbing and no longer need pain relief .

I found all the information on the web relating to the various vitamins im taking that resulted in the improvments of my RA so its easy to check for yourself .

I guess the results will differ from person to person and how advanced your RA is , all I can say si its worth giving it a go for 4-5 months and see if your results are as good as mine ...... what have you got to lose ;)

good luck !

Money! All the research shows that glucosamine doesn't work for RA. But pleased to hear you are well again.

Glucosamine sulphate trails on RA suffers have been inconclusive with 50% reporting improvements and 50% reporting no noticeable benefits .

As i said , I'm not attributing the improvement of my RA solely on the use of Glucosamine sulphate , Its just part of a combined course of vitamins Ive been taking that lead to improvements in my RA .

It isn't a cure and I still suffer from RA but the pain in my joints has greatly improved over the last 6 months ;)

As far as the Money aspect , Ive been buying the "valupak" range of vitamins which are very cheap compared to the brand name vitamins as I don't work so it hasn't broken the bank and only costs about 2 a week on average for them all :)

I would just like to point out that Glucosamine does not suit everyone. I tried it years back when I had Osteo Arthritis in my spine [ actually the Chiropractor recommended it]. But they gave me horrible stomach pains and indigestion and not long after I found out I had Gall Stones so I don't know which came 1st !! BUT if they work for you and don't upset your stomach then its all good John ;0)

It's good that you are feeling well. But did you know that you can be without pain and swollen joints and still get joint damage if you don't take disease modifying drugs or anti tnf's? Joint damage won't necessarily show in 6 months so you need to be careful and get them x-rayed. I'm not trying to rain on your parade - I'm just stating this for other people who might be tempted to give up their prescribed drugs. Same with diet and vitamins. Just be careful peeps.
