Subject: Anyone's child taking Methotrexate?

Hi everyone,

My son is 7 and was diagnosed with JIA 2 years ago. At present both his knees and his right wrist are affected. He is currently taking 10ml of Ibruprofen four times a day. He had steroid injections/fluid draining in January which didn't help for very long. His rheumatologist thinks we should now try weekly doses of Methotrexate but looking up the side effects of this drug it really worries me. I don't know whether to try the draining/steroids again to see if this helps or start Methotrexate. He had a general anaesthetic for the draining/steroids and was very frightened by the whole thing. Is anyone else's child taking Methotexate and if so, how have you found it?

Many thanks for your help.

Sarah

Hi Sarah

My friend's little girl took MTX for four years. I think she was 2 when diagnosed. She said it did wonders for her and she is now in remission.

Good luck with it all.
