Yes Kazzie, sadly I have had camera procedure done, its ok, dont worrry about it, I have Proctitis(flare up of rectum)....they can find out Y u r having probs ok, no pain either, they take picturesm and can even take biopsies, they r proably looking to see if u have Ulcerative colitis.......inflamation can cause all these isssues ok, its normal very often if suffering from athritis etc....if ya wanna talk more, happy to talk to u? do u bleeed sometimes from rear end? again some ppl r sqwirmish to talk about these matters, but i beleive in them being brought to our attention, ive said it all in the past, no one wanted to talk about it as such.....anyway, i will, if u wanna talk priv, happy to do that too

kazzie I know what you mean its unknown so that makes it scary. But don't be and dont be afraid to tell the nurse or doctor how nervous you feel. The hardest thing I found about it was the ' laxative ' that they give you for the night before the procedure. Good grief it's like dynamite so when you take that make sure you are near a toilet !! and me with having got piles at the same time ..... well you know ouch ..... The rest of it didn't bother me. Considering I have gone through having 3 babies believe me it's comparatively easy peasy ;0)

I've got collagenous colitis (microscopic colitis) and I haven't had a solid stool for years! I was in hospital 3 years ago for a week because I lost a stone in weight and took me 6 months to recover properly but that was because I ignored it! I see a gastro consultant and he is fab!!

I've had 2 colonoscopies and they're fine. Interesting actually! If you have pain killers and midazolam you will feel nothing at all! Promise! The thought is far worse!

Interesting that there is a connection with arthritis and bowel problems .........

Please don't worry about it ...... All will be fine x

kazzie I spent the bank holiday with my Son at the A+E because he had bad stomach pains and diarrhoea. The GP ' thinks ' it might be Irritable Bowel so he will just have to have the meds to see if it improves. You have all my sympathy as it's really made him fed up and he's not eating much at all.

Hi
I really sympathise with all who have stomach pains as I put up with them for years thinking it was normal!
It might not be of any help, but I discovered that wheat (and possibly other gluten containing grains) were causing my IBS symptoms (chiefly pain, bloating and loose stools). I also find dairy products can make me have diarrhea and nausea.

Best wishes

Kazzie - I've had the camera a number of times as I have Crohn's Disease and it has to be done every 3 years - lucky me!
If you are having bowel problems have you tried a LOW fibre diet? Sometimes lots of fibre can irritate the inside of the gut. I know all the advice is about eating high fibre but sometimes that can be exactly the wrong thing. I went about 15 years told to eat lots of fibre then saw a dietician at the hospital who threw up her hands in horror and said to go Low Fibre. It might be worth a try for a couple of weeks to see if it helps . . . .

Hi Kazzie, I have just come back to the forum after a holiday when I saw your request re bowel problems. I hope you dont mind me crashin your site. Like AliBaba, I too have Crohns Disease which is an inflammatory disease of the bowel. I was diagnosed over 30 years ago and have had over 40 colonoscopies and many gastroscopies (camera down throat). Dont worry about it it really sounds so much worse than it is. As others have saID the laxative is the worst bit (just stay near the toilet). It really sounds terrible and scary but it is okay. I agree with AliBaba that a LOW Fibre diet may help you for the moment. I live on this sort of diet and have done so for the past 20 years. Even if you only stay on it whilst your doctor is working out what your problem is and then you go back to normal diet. The Low Fibre diet wont hurt you and in fact will be kinder to your already inflamed bowel as the food is easier to tolerate and digest. There are so many things that could be causing your sickness but if you can try to remain as positive as possible because it really could be just a bacteria that they cant pinpoint and it will be cleared up with antibiotics. I know thats easier said than done. Good luck with it all and I hope you feel much better soon.

Kazzie hi there, soz not been on for a while....like the gals say, its the thought that is worse than the actual camera...u dont feel a thing, also those docs and nurse(shld be all femail btw) understand that most of us feel embarrased, they r brilliant in dealing with us, they know us ladies struggle with the it, they r fab, honest, im going back to the gastro guy on 30th, im dreading that, becos I think he will want me to have an endoscopy again....id rather have a colonoscopy than another endoscopy, that is a camera via the mouth into the stomach..... let us all know how u get on, Ps I ahve Proctitis of the rectum(inflamation) thasts Y i needed it, and they took little biopsies, didnt feel a thing, and they will test to see if u have Ulcerative colitis, that might explain the reason u r going thru this, or similar things, doubt its anything sinister ok xx

tc Love Jill x

There are a few different laxatives and none of them work as fast as they say they will on me. Over time we have worked out that Picolax is the one that is best for me. Have tried others and they don't work well enough. Had a failed colonoscopy last year cos it didn't work well. Bowel wasn't clear enough etc. This year I had Picolax and also went on a low residue diet for 48 hours before the 'oscopy. It worked as treat and the staff took into account how nervous I was about it failing again and were so kind. I hope you have come out the other side of yours OK Kazzie. It will be a distant memory in a week!
