Hi Sue hope all goes well for you. I have rheumatoid arthritis among other chronic health problems and had been suffering with the same problems as you. After much testing - Xrays, MRI and Scans my Rheumy decided to try a chortisone/anaesthetic block injection into the four worst vertebral spaces right into the fluid around the neck vertebral joint and close to the spinal chord. These were done over four weeks and were quite tolerable to have done. They are done by a professional specialist and under CT Scan. My thumb on the left hand is still numb but the pain has eased quite a lot to the point it doesnt wake me up at night now. I hope this is helpful for you and gives you relief should you try it. Good Luck keep smiling and positive.

No Sue not an XRay. They hook you up to a machine and send electrical signals to parts of the body that are being examined. Not as bad as it sounds - promise.

Hi Sue, I have had the nerve conduction tests done and it is just like KayJay says. Its a bit like knocking your elbow/funny bone. Hopefully this can determine if you have nerves pinched and where they are. The injections into spinal column come after this test and they do help. Hope you are feeling more at ease today. Good Luck. I am very new to this forum and its the first time actually I have been able to be involved in this or any other forum. I hope I am not intruding but must say thank you to yourself and everyone for your very helpful posts, they have really helped me and I thank you for letting me be a part of it all and reading my reply. I will post a "who am I etc" soon when I am able. I dont feel so alone anymore.

I had an MRI scan on neck as it was terrrible, and has been painful everyday for 7 months now...anyway, he found a Herniated disc(bulge) but was reassured that it is NOT touching my spinal cord....however, my understanding is, if the Nerves get pinched(as this is what he was looking for, surgeon that is) that he wld operate....thank god no trapped nerves...and the bulge shld go down, however, it hasnt yet, still getting crushing headaches, and all the muscles that cover the skull r inflamed, right down to my thoracis spine!! fab huh, along with the fact I also have Pernicious Anemia, Im NOT a happy chicky!!
