Subject: Buprenorphine (pain relief) patches

I've been prescribed every type of pain relief you can imagine an tonight my rheumy told me to give these Buprenorphine (pain relief) patches a go, just wondering if anyone had tried these yet and if they are as good with pain as my doc says

Glad to hear the patches are working. Different things seem to work for different people. I've always avoided any kind of drugs wherever possible and have found 3 alternative treatments at different times over recent years that have given me safe pain relief.

The first was Emu Oil, which you rub into the affected joints and which does give some relief if you don't mind smelling lke the Christmas turkey! (You can order it online from various outlets).

The second is a pen type device that administers small electric shocks that apparently block the pain messages to the brain (see www.paingonepen.co.uk ).

And the one that works best for me is collagen hydrolysate capsules. Evidently the cartilage and lubrication of arthritic joints (at least in osteoarthritis) can be restored by taking these over a period of time. So they address the disease itself, not just the symptoms. I started feeling quite dramatic results within a few weeks but I'm told it can take several months. (I buy mine on a 3 for 2 offer from www.proto-col-products.co.uk )

Good luck with finding the holy grail!

they did work for me origionally, Until i needed the highest dose! then taht wouldnt work anymore, so put onto Opiates..Zomorph, that help more than the patches do....However, due to Gastritis(inflamed tum Lining, my gp wants me to try patches again, as to avoid tablets going thru my gut!!

Glad to hear the patches are working for you. I am now on Durogesic (Fentanyl) patches (for last six months) after trying everything else. They are working for me too. I was very worried about using an opiate patch after reading all the scary stuff but my Rheumy has assured me that they are safe if you use them as directed and dont try to come off them on your own. So try to trust your doctors and give them a little more time until you find the level you need for pain relief. They are as good as the Doctors say. Good luck and hope you are feeling better. By the way I also use the natural oils (Emu Oil) and (Elmore Oil) but they only give me a comforting relief not relief from the ongoing awful pain of rheumatoid. Hope this helps.
