Subject: DLA

So now we all will having to have test to get DLA, with the new government budget. I like to know, how can test confirm things, after all what about flare ups, pain, not every day you feel bad, that is part of Arthritis, we all have good days and bad days.

Brenda sort of expected this. I don't suppose consultants reports will be taken any notice of as well. My DLA expires next year so not expecting to pass it then even though my symptoms are a lot worse now. I don't think it will affect DLA claims that have been awarded permanant though but who knows ? . All we can do is keep appealling.

From what I was reading on this site

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/Budget/Budget2010/DG_188501

every one will have to go on the test now..

The government will introduce a medical test to claim Disability Living Allowance from 2013. Youâll have to take the test whether youâre a new or existing claimant. The test will replace the current application forms.

As it stand I am worst also.. I have to reapply, soon this year..

My left should elbow and hand hurst so much , that the pain meds don't work any more, and I can use my hand or arm well, its fun tring to wash my hair, and shave, as i can not lift my arm well..

I am in tears when the pain is bad.. and my Gp wont give me any thing stronger, as I have to see my Rhmmy at the end of July.

I had to take Solpadol for Sciatica and find that these also dulls the pain of RA. I think these have a higher content of codine ? and are prescription only. Even so they only dull the pain a bit they do not take it away altogether. Perhaps you could ask your GP or INSIST that what they are prescribing is not enough as you should not have to put up with uncontrolled pain . I'm going to ask my Rheumie on my next visit what is the best for my particular pain.

I think you are right, I hate pain, and I always could handle it.. But with RA its very painful, and doctors have no clue how you feel.. Godd luck with your Rheumie..

And you Brenda perhaps we should be a bit more bullish with the doctors in general. After all if they [ or their family ] were in pain like we are then I think they would have no qualms whatsoever about prescribing strong painkillers !!

My husbands on co-dydramol which really helps. Also, he has Tramadol for when it all gets too bad, both his GP and Rheumie have prescribed this for him. He has RA and Fibromyalgia

Sue try to do it next time through a Citizens Advice Bureau - that's the only way I managed to get it. Tried it 1st myself and went through all the appeals with no success but when the Citizens Advice people helped me I got it straight away.

i was gettin really worried with this as i am gettin a bit better with all meds am on but then i have been ill and coulnt take my meds for 2 days and boy did the pain come back and it made me and my family realise with out all the neds am on prob would be in bad pain and deformed joints and hardly walk ect .so surly this must count for something but if the dla want to see people like this i would have to not take my meds for a week which is stupid i would of thought doctors reports would of been enough
