Subject: PA people! Toe nail removal?

Hi guys! As well as on my skin I get very bad nail psoriasis. I have my finger nails injected in the nail beds with steroids but not much can be done for my toe nails. As at end of tether because nails are about 1cm+ thick and so painful I saw the podiatrist on Thursday (NHS) and it has been decided that I will have surgery to have my toe nails taken off to put an end to the problem once and for all. I was just wandering If anyone else has had this done and If it's unpleasant to go through as it's done under local and If it's a painful recovery? In anticipation Abbie XXX

oooooh, Abbie, that sounds really unpleasant! My PA only presents itself as dimples so I'm afraid I don't know what you must be going through with the discomfort of the nail bed psoriasis. However, my boyfriend is a bit of a muppet and used to cut his toenails with a scalpel and as a result got manky toe nails. He had to have his big toe removed under local anaesthetic and, despite some mild discomfort to begin with, was absolutely fine. I think he mostly found it unpleasant having the injection in the end of his toe but he is petrified of needles!

All the best hun

haha - i meant to say big toe nail - not his big toe, that'd be fairly extreme!

lol defo would be extreme! Good to hear it's not too bad. I'm having all ten off but they're doing it in two halves. I can relate to the injection thing though coz before they put the steroid injections in my nail beds I have 3 locals in each finger and it is horrific. That's what makes me scared about my toe nail removal is the locals, especially as your toes are more sensative than your fingers. Argh!. . . Abbie stop being a wuss! lol X

Hi Abbie, wow that sounds terrible! Like louloebelle I only get little dimples and kind of lines in my nails so I cant help you personally with the toe nail removal. But I do have a friend that had a bad fungal infection in both big toe nails that just wouldnt budge and she ended up having both of the nails removed. She said it was not that bad. Just a bit tender afterwards. It took quite a while for them to grow back, but when they did her fungal infection was gone!

Blimey your not being a wuss!! Im sat here cringing at the very thought of an injection into my nail bed!

Hope it goes well for you.

Take care xxx

They are gonna put chemicals in my nail beds so they don't grow back because otherwise the problem will just return. Eek! X

ooooohhhhhh.... so what will protect your toes? So im guessing that removing your nails wont cure the problem then, it will come back unless its permanent :( xx

Toenails off will be permanent as they will apply chemicals to stop re growth.
