Subject: New meds :)

Hiya not been on for awhile hope everyone is well not had time to catch up with older posts grrr not enough hours in the day for me at the mo lol

Started my new anti-tnf last week called CIMZIA, im on 400mg for 4 weeks then will go down 200mg after that and start doing it at home bit nervous about that!!! other than it really stinging and leaving me with 2 massive brusies on both my legs i feel great had a bit of an icky stomache but can put up with that cos i feel my old self again i know it might be too soon to say but hey ho i am gonna make the most of it lol

Had a reply from the DLA too my claim got rejected grrrr so will put an appeal in as soon as i can get to the citizens advice center as i am totally clueless where to start with it.

Can anyone give me some advice on self injecting??? i am thinking of taking my bf along with me so he can see how it's done and the nurse can show him too

xx

Self injecting is horrible but does get easier. I self-inject enbrel twice weekly and have been doing so for 7 years and it has become 2nd nature. I do have to set a reminder in my mobile phone to do the injection as I find it really easy to forget, particularly if I'm having a really good time with no flare ups. I can't say I've ever heard of CIMZIA, does it have another name?

I found injecting into my tummy easier than my legs 'cos I have a nice squishy tummy and I can grab a nice chunk of flesh.

I went through quite a few wobbly patches but you just have to "go for it". I'd have to prep the injection and clean the area, then go away and do something else and then come back and, barely thinking about what I was doing and just jab it in. The quicker it goes in the less painful it is. Also, don't rub the area afterwards as this can make it bruise more.

Would your bf do the injection for you? My bf can't even be in the same room as me when I'm injecting. I don't know if I'd like anyone of my family/friends/bf doing it for me - my sister, who's a nurse, offerd to do mine and that just seemed so wrong - I was happier to do it myself than have her do it.

I hope you do well.

Amelia could the district nurse do it for you at your GP surgery ? Just a thought but forgive me if I'm wrong as I have never had to do this myself ;0)

Hope it becomes easier for you xx

Hiya CIMZIA is a new anti-tnf only been in england since January and i'm the 2nd person in the west midlands to get it!!!!

I shouldn't complain really as i only have to self inject once every 2 weeks, so not that bad really, yeah my bf has offered to do it for me so i will let him have a go lol the bio nurse said i will need to take it out the fridge and leave it 30min before i use it i think this is why it stung so much when i had it done last week as the nurse had only just took it out grrrrr! I think it's like you say louloubelle you just got to go for it. Thanks for the advice x

Hiya kayjay, they won't do it at my local gp surgery as it's a new drug and only the hospital will pescribe it for me which is a bit of a pain as the hosp is 20min away. Thanks for advice x

hi Amelia,
Hope it works well for you hun. I'm sure you'll get blase about the injections in time.
Bad news about DLA. If you contact NRAS they have a fantastic leaflet about filling in DLA form. Someone said it was online too I think. Have a look and see. Might help.

Hi there! Self injecting becomes a sinch after a couple of times. My leg always stung for about half an hour but I now know why. A couple of weeks ago I forgot the Alcohol wipe and no stinging. I asked the GP about this and apparently my IV nurse should have told me to let it totally dry before injecting a now hey presto! No more stinging! Also the quicker you go in the less painful it is. I also find applying pressure with a cotton ball as soon as you withdraw the needle stops bruising. Good luck with it and really don't worry! XXX
