Subject: MTX Side Effects.

Hello Folks,

Have been on MTX and folic Acid since last October with the dose gradually increasing.

Three weeks ago I started on 20mg of MTX per week and folic acid on the remaining six days.

I take the MTX on Mondays in 5mg doses over a twelve hour period as advised by my Rheumatologist.

On Monday and Tuesday I drink plenty of fluids and this seems to help as far as headaches go, but for the rest of the week and right up until Saturday mornings I feel completely washed out and almost zombie like.

My problem is psoriatic Arthritis and I know that can cause fatigue anyway.

I just wondered if anyone else gets these symptoms after taking MTX. In my case these side effects are lasting a good five days.

I'm not looking forward to Monday and the next dose.

Regards to All, Connor.

I'll contact my Rheumatologist tomorrow and suggest dropping down to 17.5mg.

Paul, you mentioned faint spells, I've been getting that as well to the extent that I've been ruluctant to drive the car this last week.

I'm normally not the type that wants to sit around doing nothing, but to be honest this past week has required an effort to even get off my backside.

Hope things improve for you mate.

Yeah its a pain, never really had the problem before, until i was told to take sulfasazaline on top of my 20mg mtx. It was as though i had a overdose and that completely wiped me out, called the Doc the next day and was told to stop taking the sulfa but since then i cannot even tolerate the mtx.
Hope you also feel better soon :-)

regards

Paul

Hi Connor! I too have PA and have always found fatigue a problem, for first few months of mtx I was like a zombie most of the time but as time has passed it's down to a couple of days. I didn't have my injection this Saturday because one of my mouth sores has become infected but I still slept all day Sat and 6hrs Sat night lol. I can however now tell the difference between mtx fatigue and PA fatigue. I'm gradually increasing my injection dose so guess next few weekends will be a right off. I hope it all settles down for you soon though. go well X

I was just put up to the max doese of 25 mg of MTX, and I took it last night right before I went to bed.
That way, I am sleeping through the worst of it. I was terrified to take the 25mg as I had only ever taken 15 mg as my max and eventually weaned back to 7.5mg.

I can actually report that I am not as zombie like as I would have thought, but then again, my reaction varies from week to week.

I ate a lot of popcorm to fill my stomach and I had 2 shots of wheatgrass during the week to help detoxify my sytem and liver. I am wondering if that had a positive affect on the MTX ill effects.
