Has anyone else got this problem? I had a row with my rheumy nurse as they say it is found in alcoholics but I am not much of a drinker. She keeps asking me how much I drink and it infuriates me that I have to keep telling her not much. Am on mtx and prednisilone and various other meds. Was supposed to go up to 10mg mtx on Monday but I asked her if I was supposed to take the mtx or not and she said not. I put the phone down on her before I knew whether to take any mtx at all!! I find her totally patronising. She told me that the hospital results are not the same as the GP results and I know that is rubbish. She treats me as if I am an idiot. I don't know why my gamma gt is raised. It was when I first got ill last summer but had started to go down, now it is higher than it was before. No-one has found a reason for it and I am going to ask for a referral to a liver specialist to get to the bottom of it. Am going to stop mtx and all painkillers until I do. Am so fed up p.s. am going to scotland for a few days in a minute so you may not get a response from me for a while :)

Hey Sally, they can be sooooo patronising! What is gamma gt? Surely if its found in alcoholics then it could just be your MTX thats doing it? A friend of mine has Crohns but before she was diagnosed they accused her of eating disorders and even taking heroin because she lost so much weight! Its ridiculous! Hope youre having a nice time in Scotland : ) xx

The " experts " were the same with my Mum. I got sooo fed up of telling them that she was not an alchoholic and had never been one obviously as she had managed to work full time from age 14 to retirement !! Turned out it was early signs of Dementia !! Tut Tut it is sooo insulting.

Hey guys Gamma GT is an enzime your liver produses soz cant spell that, which can be raised through medication, alcohol, or inflamation in the body, its a liver inflamation marker. My sister inlaw had a raised gt due to a lot of paracetamol. I cant realy see how she can say its through alcohol, it can be raised with a lot of meds. xx

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I had raised gamma gt before I was taking Mtx but it was going down when they last tested for it. The nurse has been telling me to take paracetamol on a regular basis so it might even be her advice that is causing the problem. Had a fab time in Scotland though felt tired all the time. Still no wiser as whether to take my meds tomorrow or not! Hope you are all well and had a good weekend. xx
