Hi Jill I'm so sorry to hear your news - you really have been through the mill lately !! Never heard of this before but I'm sure he will be okay once they get to the bottom of it. Yes school phobia does exist it happened to my son as well. He got a compound fracture trying to copy his elder mates jump his bike when he was 11 - result a bad compound fracture of the bottom bone in the leg. He missed about 8 months of school and could never settle back into it and never took his GCSE's or whatever they are called. He's fine now [ age 21 ] and learning to be a Plumber.

Sorry couldn't be more use to you but hope it's resolved asap for you. ALL MY HUGS TO YOU AND YOUR SON XXXXXX

Hi Jill. Poor you, you are really going throught the mill at the moment aren't you. I know nothing about this so have had a quick look on the internet and it appears that in most cases it is harmless. It may be because he has put some weight on but I shouldn't think there will be any other adverse affects from it. I suspect they will check his pee to see if he is diabetic, which I am sure he is not, but this appears to be one thing that can be linked to fatty liver, apart from weight gain (and excess alcohol use...although I think you can rule that one out!!!)so try not to worry too much...easier said than done I know. The Doctor should be able to give you more info tomorrow. Hope it goes ok xxx

hi Jill, I've got one too! Mine is due to steroids. Was getting pain under my ribs so was sent for a scan. Consultant told me to watch my diet and alcohol intake (obviously not applicable to your 12 year old!) It's possible he has a predisposition to it and maybe he just needs to lose that stone and a half he's put on. It's only fat settling around the liver so when you cut down on fat I guess it goes in time. I've lost nearly a stone at WW and don't have the pain any more. Would be interesting to see if fatty liver gone. I wouldn't overly worry, sounds like diet thing but your doctor will talk you through it tomorrow.

Take it easy hun and let us know what they say.
xx

Hi Jill! I have a fatty liver. Mine is due to putting on four stone with life saving high dose steroids 2007-2009 for a brain disease. It started to go down but started coming back recently due to steroids for the Arthur. I've been taking milk thistle supplements for about 6wks now and have really noticed a difference. Milk thistle is also good when on mtx coz it stops build up in liver. My liver had started to protrude due to mtx but it's really going down. Guess I just need to crack on and loose weight lol. Let us know how you get on tomorrow XXX

That's interesting Abbie. My niece's husband swears by milk thistle. Is it safe to take with Mtx though? Presume so as you are taking it but just wondered.

@ Sally! Yes milk thistle is safe to take with mtx. My friends Rheumy suggested it because she was on mtx and before I started taking it, pharmacist checked it was ok with all my other meds including mtx. X

Thanks Abbie, I'll look into it. My niece gets it from somewhere in Jersey, says it's cheaper. Someone else has suggested Devil's Claw Gel (they do tablets too but wouldn't advise taking them). Bought some the other day out of desperation. Not helpful yet :)
