Subject: Methotrexate & Headaches.
Have been on mtx for about 7 months now. Currently I'm on a 17.5mg dose which I was taking on Monday mornings. I was finding that Monday evening a pretty bad headache was developing which lasted all of the following day, Tuesday, and even into Wednesday morning. My Rheumatologist suggested that I take the dose in two parts. ie Half in the morning and half in the afternoon. I found that a headache still developed, but it was less severe. I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere on the internet someone said to drink plenty of fluids on Monday & Tuesday. This week I've done that and there has been no sign of a headache developing at all. For the last two days I've guzzled tea, coffee, soft drinks and water. Thought I'd share that in case it suits any of you.

Fabulous! My GP gave me a tip. . . Avoid coffee mtx day and day after but as I get a stinking headache If I don't have coffee (bad I know) it was kinda a no brainer but i'll defo try drinking lots of hydrating fluids cut back on the coffee. Thanks for that advice though! Much appreciated! X

I was advised to cut out caffeine altogether when I was on mtx as it can affect your kidney and liver function!

This'll make u laugh, woke up late for dr's the other week so couldn't have my two cups of morning coffee. Then got really busy. My headache got worse and worse. Finally got to sit down for a coffee about midday. Headache was real bad. Had coffee, headache gone lol. How bad is that? Oops! lol X
