What did your doctor say? Arthritis without a known cause is seen as its own condition, Idiopathic Arthritis (Idiopathic meaning no known cause). Sero-negative Inflammatory Arthritis is basically Rheumatoid Arthritis, but it doesn't show up on blood tests. You would expect impaired use of hands with arthritis, but it's no necessary. If you have only seen your GP, and he has told you he can see nothing wrong, either make an appointment with another doctor, or push for a referral to a Rheumatologist. I doubt you're going mad - good luck getting answers. x

Check out nodal osteoarthritis especially if you've got little bumps appearing on the side of your fingers. This sort of arthritis doesn't show on any blood tests and it doesn't progress to rheumatoid arthritis. I've just been tentatively diagnosed with it and it sounds as you describe. I also have tendinitis on the heels and elbows.

Hi there, I have just been diagnosed (still awaiting proper results though) with psioratic arthritis. I started with pains in my thumbs about 3 months ago, and now my right thumb is worse than my left. The doctor said I have carpal tunnel too. Yesterday I felt like what can only be described as a "tear" in my right heel.... so it seems like we have similar symptoms.

Richard, Hi Sounds like it to me, becos its in multiple joints, but it Might just be a flare up that wont happen again once its gone... U really do need a referral to a Rhumatologist, GP dont know, so ask for a referal and it will give u peace of mind, dont put it off, becos the waiting times for an appointment with Rhumatologist can take Months good luck

Hi Blondegirl sorry to hear that, but im sure u feel better now that at least u have a diagnosis, plus u will now get the correct meds for your condition... I had carpal tunnel 22 years ago, had both hands operated on, best thing I did, becos the pain of carpal tunnel was dreadful...Carpal tunnel is part and parcel of Arthritis by the way... Hopefully yours will calm down, but there are tests they can give u to see how bad the carpal is...by the way, my 17 year old daughter has it on and off, apprrently been told by the specialist that its Hereditary, dos anyone else in your family have it ? Take care let us know how u get on Jill x
