Hi Amelia, in the past i had to go to a place to have a medical!id rather thery had come to my house....when i had my medical, he examined me first, head to foot, pressed. touched every joint etc, awaiting your response(they dont have Xray eyes) anyway, in my experience that day(hated it) asked me to get undressed to underwear, asked me to walk!! towards, him and away from him, that way he did a little maths exercise and decided to double, treble the walking distance that I cld do!...He refused to listen to me that every step hurt, so even if i cld walk a miole, didnt matter, id hurt all that distance!....after that losts of medical questions, like, do/can u work, how do u get thru a regualr day, who helps, who washes u, etc etc.....it took about 2 hours in all, mb less, seeemed forever......he also asked me where I had parked, and how did I manage walking there.......anyway, for me my money didnt go up that time.....i felt uncomfortable, becos the blidddy receptionist was the chaperone when i got undressed, i felt bad........ now Amelia, I was Not prepared that day at all!!!....this is y im telling u my expeience.....

Have someone with u...
tell him how bad things r 4 u,
the mefs u r on(he will ask u all this anyway, and then get u to sign it!!

then he will ask how far u can walk, without pain
if u dont know, he will guess for u, by getting u to walk to him!(JOKE)....they r concerend more about the Mobility of things, not the other joints in reference to getting DLA!! its about the walking, if he think u can walk ok, ya wont gert the DLA! simpple as that, so if u r sufffering with walking, painful ankles, feet, joints, hips, back, LET him KNOW, and Emphasise how bad it is!!...mb U dont go walking, tell him that........dont let my experience affect the one your having, yours may go brill, but want U to know what may happen, after all u r having a diff doctor, mine was weird! and in a dingy old bulinding, was NOT a doctors offfice at all!!...think it was one where druggies go for their methodone!! honest, it was diabloical......

so just remember, stay calm, U have Nowt wo hide, tell him How bad it is each day....he will guide u with th questions....and as u ansa them, he writes down every word u say, then U sign it!! legal document!......have a freind/family with u/hubby etc, dont do this alone ok....and most of all....DONT FEEL INTIMIDATED!!... when i the medical happening?? xx

btw, he will watch your every move!...body language etc....so if for example u get Up from sitting down, he will watch u, watch your stance,he will watch the way U sit back down.....all the stuff we do now via readapting our selves, just want u to know....if u want to offer him /her a cuppa, get ya m8 to do it, NOT U!! will count against u...little things like that xx

Thanks Jill your advice means a million to me, my bf will be here he is unemployed at the mo bless him so he can make the tea and answer the door to him/her lol My only concern is although i struggle everyday i go to college aswell and wondered if that would go against me? but my great mates at college help me with everything from note taking to giving me lifts home etc.. I don't drive so i get lifts everywhere.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with yours the first time, i was suprised they come to the house to be honest. The letter states they will have a look round my house too. Not sure when they will come out to see me i have to await there call so could be ages yet lol

I know what you mean about the walking thing they asked alot about walking distance etc.. in the original forms daft really isn't it grrrr.

Thanks again for your advice i will keep you all posted xx

Hi Amelia, when it gets to the questions about College,U r entitled to go to college, ppl go to work and still get high rate DLA....just expolain that yiur very good m8s help u with your care etc, like geting lifts to work, writing notes etc, tell him all that....it wont go against u, mention taht U are NOT going to rot at home, that U do Push yourself, and daily its a struggle, but for your m8s, u wldnt cope, but as U do cope, altho in pain, their helping u mentally and emotionally helps u push on......mention u use ya crutch at college etc, where ever ok....use it in the house too, I wld rather they come to my house, I will be better prepared, it wasnt that I was being dishonest, but it all went against me, becos I drove there, had to walk upstairs to his room etc, yet I was having a real bad day that day!....U remain Positive Amelia, and get ya bf to say that whilst hes not working, he does all the clkeaning etc, cooking etc, whilst yiour at college OK.....good luck for when the time comes xx

Abbie....Please dont be scared, this, as I said is from my Personal experience, shite, but true....and I wanted to warn Amelia, Amelia respects my truth, as I do hers,Known her a long time, and will be honest no matter what, but will always add that its MY personal experience, sounds Negative I know, but seriously, as I also mentioned that doc was well weird! Again I was unwell, and he didnt see that, and I did not get an increase, there was questions that was not necessary to my case, and annoyed me..... Anyway on a brighter Note, fill out the new forms as best as ya can, cant see y U dont get it tho Abbie, and I think they choose people randomly for mediclas, I have a rotten feeling that im goona have another, I got a letter thru the other day, and I assumed I got my DLa, misread it, was just about a slight increase, so still waiting for my DLA claim...due by end June! And like U, Im worried....becos ive also got worse, and will go to tribunal if I dont receive it!....like U say Abbie, Your condition has got worse, fingers crosssed U will get your entitlement......tcv Jill x

Amelia, I didnt realise that this was your first claim(i forget things),didnt want to upset u with my experience, but I deffo wanted to warn u about the other stuff they watch out for.....usually in first claims they often refuse flat out, thats what some of the members, including myself had happened to, so I think that U r getting a home visit is good!..¦I did get my dla on 2nd claim(littlest as poss) and over the years, I protested, and appeal, tribunal etc, and eventually got what I deserve.....awaiting for mine , sent it off ages ago, not heard, apart fromn the increase, and I hadnt read my letter prop, and shouted to bf that I"ive got it", then he rad it a few hour later and said "No ya havnt"....¦LOl i had already told the forum in a posting that i just got mine, so Im slightly botherd, becvos its civil servants that read our claim forms...(thats what Ive heard) and that bothers me a lot......Y isnt it a doctor???? anyone have any info on that bit??? MONICA we neeed u, she knoes the lot...tc Amelia and stay Pos xx

Lol it's ok Jill and i really appreciate your honesty on it all, i never realised that civil servants read our claim forms thats really disgusting and you are totally right it should be a doctor that reads them. Hope you don't have no problems with yours grrrr the whole system gets me totally angry.

It's just annoying as where i live people get it soo easily and they have no health probs eg my neighbour supposdly has a bad back but he plays football mows the lawns, washes the cars the list goes on and he got it no probs first time what a joke eh .. sorry i'm having a rant lol

Thanks again and good luck with yours tc xxx

Amelia, in that case, U will get yours, if he gets it, then u deffo will, so dont u worry ok..., think it must depend on areas.....tell u a little story LOL...a friend of mine works in the benefits depts etc, chasing up ppl that r on the sick, jobseekers and the like, anyway a Soliticor had been unwell, and deserved his benefits etc, but then got well, and Totally forgot to tell the benefits dept that he was now back at work, well, and earning in region of £25,000!........they chased him up, and becos he admitted it, due to so much work as a Very 'Important' Honest Solicitor(LOL) they let him offff with it!! he had been claiming a further year of benefits!! he lied, but got away with it!!....
