Subject: Private Rheumatologist Charges.

Just out of interest anyone got an idea of cost for consultations with a Rheumatologist in the private sector in the UK ?

In Cyprus my first consultation cost me 45.00 sterling. She spent over an hour giving me a thorough check over offering advice and issuing prescriptions etc.

On some subsequent visits of a shorter duration the charge has been about 25.00 sterling.

I remember going to see a dermatologist in Torquay, Devon and was charged 25.00...for exactly 5 minutes of his time and that was 32 years ago.

Hi Jill,

When i first saw this lady she issued me with a doctors certificate which I had to present to the Cyprus NHS service.

She said that some of the possible medications I would need in the future were quite expensive and saw no reason why I should have to pay for them.

When I produced that certificate at Larnaca's general hospital they issued me with a card which entitles me to free prescriptions and hospital services, ie operations and X Rays etc.

She has issued me with several doctors certificates to claim sickness benefit and has not charged for them either. On top of that she gave me her private mobile number and email address and said I can contact her at any time if any problems crop up.

I have emailed a few times with queries and she has replied each time on the same day.

I think you are right Jill...I'll stay where I am !!

i paided £350 to see a private Doc (Prof) in London for a consultation, he told me the best way to go for treatment and sent me on to his team in the NHS.

Expensive but its worked out well.

I must admit Jill that when my GP here suggested that I see a Rheumatologist I was a little apprehensive about seeing a foreign doctor in a foreign country. ( I did'nt even know what a Rheumatologist was until then.)

However she's turned out to be very thorough and seems to be genuinely concerned about her patients welfare. I know, for a change, I've been very lucky.

Paul....I stand corrected....glad that worked out for u, but I was told that, info is conflicting with the nursing staff...ive recentkly witnessed it all over again, sadly...... Connor, u r lucky guy then, mind u, My gp is fab, he refers when I need it, he helps me so much, he is the best gp ever, and my spine surgeon is also great, ive also been lucky, but the incorrect info given out is terrible....anyway Paul, im so glad to hear that, becos now I know, shld I consider going for a private consultation, I will...thanks Jill

I was seeing a consultant for something else on the NHS but due to cut backs in that department the care was shocking. I decided to go private as my needs weren't being met. I payed £300 for the initial consult then £150 after that for my monthly check up appointments. I was discharged a couple of weeks ago so am now somewhat richer lol
