Subject: May sound like a daft question, but.....
Have been on Methotrexate for about six months now. My Rheumatologist just upped the dose to 17.5mg per week. Over the past three months I've noticed three teeth have been loosening up. I just wondered if there might be some connection to the Methotrexate. I'm no spring chicken any more, am 59 now, but wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I saw the Rheumatologist only yesterday, but completely forgot to mention it to her. Thanks.

Hi Connor, think we have two connors in here, one from Cyprus...... my teeth have suffered a lot since being on ¦MTX(3 years now, I get lots of absesses, was told my front(crowns) r getting loose, but then they arnt my own teeth.... could U ring the rhumatologists secretary and ask her to ask rhummy? they r usually very helpful....my Dentist says because of the Immune suppressants my mouth is severly affected due to the MTX, so I say its possible, but dont quote me on this, others on here may be able to help U...good luck tc Jill

Hi Connor! I'm 33, have been on mtx 8months and so far 'touch wood!' haven't had any teeth probs. Went to dentist couple of weeks ago and He said infact how good my teeth are. He know's i'm on mtx but funnily enough didn't say anything about problems? Anyway I hope you get ur teeth sorted and it doesn't cost u an absolute fortune X

Hi Conner I have been having a lot of trouble with my mouth and have recently got two loose teeth,and have very painful mouth ulcers, Dentist said it was with mtx. I also suffer with cold sores more because of the mtx.tc.

Hello Lynn, Have also been getting some mouth ulcers, not had them since I was in my teens. Am waiting to see what the Rheumatologist thinks. If thats the case I'll post it here 'cos if its a possible side effect from MTX then I think people should be aware of it. Thanks for your replies ladies & regards to all.

Just heard back from my Rheumatologist and according to her the loosening of teeth can be a side effect from Methotrexate, however, it is rare.

Hi Jill, Like you, trust me to get a rare side effect. Yep, I'm connor from Cyprus. As far as I know I'm the only Connor on this forum. This past week I have been posting a fair bit on different subjects so perhaps thats why you think there are two of us...?
