Subject: Modern Gas Fires Are A right Pain In the A**E

Good grief who invented the new Gas Fires ? Before my son went to college he put the gas fire on for the ........ cat !! When I got up Felix was there as warm as toast but I was thinking of the huge bill I thought I would turn it off. So now you have to KNEEL down on the floor to turn it off at the BOTTOM. Oh I thought how am I gonna get up ? So I had to crawl about up to a chair and try to stand using my " good " leg. It beggars belief how they never think of people with arthritis + stuff when they invent them !! Not to mention older people with bad eyesight.

Rant over !!

I know what you mean! I am grovelling about trying to turn radiators on and off. Can't see what I am doing (and I'm not THAT old!), can't bend my knee and wrists don't work very well. Why on earth don't they put the controls at the top of the radiator? It's not rocket science. Problem is that everything these days is designed by peeps in their 20's/30's and they haven't experienced any decrepitude yet! (expect those with arthritis of course!)

Jill you can get ones that are proper toilets but just are higher, my mum had one. Kids can't do anything to it and it's not obvious it's raised, looks like normal one. Council was going to pay for it but they took so long my Dad paid himself. Perhaps you could ask for one? xx
