Subject: Tramadol

Hey guys,

Just started taking Tramadol yesterday and personally, I love it lol. Just been reading about it online and Ive read loads of reviews of how addicitive it is and not to start taking it! Just wondering who else takes it and your experiences with it? Good/bad?

Just curious : )
Hope everyones well

I am taking this and it does take the edge off my pain but feel like a puppet on a string and am so tired all the time. Does it make you feel sickly too?

Hi Verity, I've taken it. Wasn't strong enough for me lol! Didn't make me feel sick either.Had absolutely no problem stopping it when I needed too. They say all the painkillers are addictive but never had any difficulty stopping anything. Perhaps it depends on your personality :)

Glad it is working for you.

I havent had any of the negative side effects, not yet anyway! Ive been struggling with co-codamol for the last few months with it not doin anything so its such a relief to feel a bit better. Gonna just take them when im desperate just in case lol

I was put on Tramadol a while ago but because of something else i'm on it's not very effective at all unfortunately. I take Co Dydramol which takes the edge off and use the Tramadol at night as a top up. I've been on it for various things over the years and never found it a problem to come off. If I go 24hrs without my Co Dydramol, I get antsy, tension headaches, easily stressed and shakey. Spoke to Dr about it recently and she said take at least one dose a day and If a time comes when I don't need it anymore or I get put on something else, they'll just wean me off it.

Its a bit scary isn't it knowing that ya have to be weaned off certain drugs. Only just started accepting drugs from the docs so am still new to painkillers. For some idiotic reason ive always tried to manage without and its been bloody awful! lol What other things does everyone take for pain?

When my neck is bad it gives me an awful headache that I can explain and the dr has given me Co Codamol for this. When it bad I have 2 head and neck massage which help. Considering buying a tens machine as they're on offer at mo in Lloyds. Been thinking of this since the dr said about my pain killers.

I found the Tens machine useless. See if you can borrow one first to try it out before you buy it. Sometimes you can borrow from NHS. My mother found it useless too.

Abbie - I have the same problem as you, when the arthritis in my shoulder gets bad all the muscles in my shoulder and neck get really tense and get the most horrid headaches - it feels like you head is being squashed in a vice.

Boots own brand over the counter tension headache relief tablets are amazing. I find they help with the arthritic pain as well as the muscle tension (they contain a smaller amount of paracetamol and higher amount of codeine than over the counter co-codamols but also have caffeine in them to help the blood flow as well as a mild muscle relaxant). I swear by them and you don't feel quite as giddy as with other pain relief.

As for tramadol - sent my heart rate racing and kept passing out every time I stood up, it was a very strange experience

I used a tens manchine on my back once, and my legs lost feeling in them, mb i used it incorrectly.

Louloubelle, thanks for that info, ive got three discs in my neck that have gone(we all have only 7) so only have 4 that support my head, when it plays up, the headaches r dreadful. muscles r tight all aorund the shoulders and part of the upper spine, nitemare, so think il give those a go JIll

Im the same, if my shoulders play up then my neck is really bad and rock hard until my shoulders better. Same if my neck is really bad, get bad back and shoulder pain. Its so frustrating the way its all linked! Just means theres always something that isn't happy and has to bring the rest down with it lol.

Yeh , ive had about 5 sessions of accupuncture. Got another one tomorrow. It just doesnt seem to have made a difference : ( I was really positive about it too. Really thought it would help. I thought it helped my feet a lot at first but I think its just down to me buying some posh supportive trainers. proper support on my feet has made such a difference to the amount of pain I get. Its a lot less.

Hi All,

I have been on the tramadol for 8 months now and find it alright every now and then everything tastes of metal but it soon goes if I eat something with chilli!! I also take Naproxen with the Tammies. I am quite un responsive to pain killers as i spent years on them as a kid due to knee pain ( growing pains) which turns out was prob the start of my Arthur but hey ho. I personally have never found them addictive Every few weeks I miss them out for a couple of days just incase.

Hey Verity,

Yhea good old growing pains.. covers a multitude of sins for gp's LOL.... Finally pulled my finger out and took on board all your and others advice and laid it down to the doc.. Told him I was not leaving his GP centre until steps had been taken to get me what I wanted. Thankfully he is actually a very good gp, laughed and said right lets get it sorted. I feel that either I am in some sort of flare up or Im am going down hill fast. I now have been refered to another Rhummie which I am seeing next week. So fingers crossed I will start getting somewhere. Its frustrating the hell out of me and I used to be a person who survived happily on 4 hours kip and was running round everywhere now some days a shower is enough to finish me off for the day ! Ill update you all when I have seen the rhummie :-)
