Subject: Tip for fatigue

Hi everyone I have PA and with this comes fatigue. I know alot of you guys suffer with this also. I've found something that helps a bit. . . Bassetts soft and chewy daily energizers. You can take up to 3 daily and I find 2 quite enough. They are £3.99 x30 in Superdrug but usually on some sort of offer X

hi Abbie, I was intrigued by your post so looked them up and realised they are vitamins.
I don't want to be negative but I was told not to take supplements as they boost your immune system and therefore make your arthritis more aggressive. Anyone else been told this?

work is hard and very stressful and i'm pretty hacked off with it at the mo, my work do know i have RA but i don't think they understand the problems that go along with it and i hate being off with the flu etc. I seem to catch everything at the moment.
I also work a week of late shifts (1530-0130) once a month and this kills my body and i cannot recover.
I'm close to asking to come off it but we are so busy we are expected to work at all hours to keep our customers happy. I suppose thats working in London for you :-(

Think i'll give those energisers a miss if they are just vitamins.

Pual I use to work as secretary years ago when I lived in south London, trains, busses, and rotten tube trains, wot a rat race working in london for me was...I can understand y your body isnt coping with those shifts, however, as your Employers do know about the R.A. dont u think mb getting a letter from your consultant asking to take u off those late shifts, I dont think that wld bre asking too much, especially if the consultant explains to them that after the late shifts, that it takes people with R.A. longer to recover due to the fatigue that coems with the disease...worth a try mb...good luck Paul

Oh Dear i'd never been told not to take vitamins. Won't be taking them anymore then. Now this is gonna prob make me sound really thick but i'm still new to this and my Rheumy doesn't really inform me of the finer details. . . Because I have regular steroid injections and am on steroids and have a history of steroid use because of serious illness in 2007 my GP has put me on Alendronic acid and Adcal D3. Now the Adcal D3 has vit D in. I take it x2 daily. Will this be ok? You can get the Adcal without the vit D. Would this be a better option? Thanks for all your input I've Only been a member of this forum a week but as an Arthritis newbie have learnt so much and ur all so kind XXX

Abbie, first of all i wld make an appt with your GP if hes good, and understands rhumatology issues, if not, go and see your Rhummy and ask about any questions u need to know, write it all down, take a friend with u for support.

¦Also Abbie we r all different, like U, I have learnt a lot, been coming into this forum for over a year now, nearly year and half, so I have read a lot of things, learnt a lot of things, and By god, Ive been Horrified by lots of posts that ppl have gone thru, and suffered! we r all different, its Ok to to feel a bit concerened, and its correct that u ask a proffesional if there is anything U dont understand or r worried about...some of us r on different meds, even tho we have same illness, the differences are amazing, sdo what im trying to day to u is, Dont worry too much, for example about the vits pastilles u r taking(was good that U offered us that advice) that is how we learn things, and also how others know about thingsd, that is what this forum is for, so that we get informed, good or bad, also its good for all of us to hear and learn about different injections, how the proffesionals treat us, im lucky, gr8 GP and surgeons, others sadly have had a terrible time with GPs and rhuumies, so all I want to say to u, is please dont panick or worry about the tendons injections I mentioned, its something that I found out other day, But i wanted to inform the forum, and it wasnt intended to worry U or anyone, but this forum is about learning, being supportibe to each other, and we r, I feel bad now, but I think its best U find this out, I will Also find out via my Bio Nurse OK, so I will chase that info up for u too, becos I never was told that having injections in my shoulder to help the pain wld casue me now to have tendons the age of an 80 year old, im so angry about this. however I will double check OK(the ortho surgeon I was seeing wasd private, becos I had an accident jan and he had to exzamine me, and he tried to touvch my shoulders and I asked himn NOT to, I told him I have Tendon degenration, and then he asked me have I had 2 or 3 injections in theshoulders, I said I had, and he said that cld be the reason of the tendon degenration! I was so shocked.....so please dont worry yourself sick, I think many of us listen , but if there is something we here, that may affects us, we check it out for ourselves, hope this helps Abbie...Love Jill x

Hi Abbie, Adcal is fine. I prescribed it and am on steroids and methotrexate. You need the vit D to absorb the calcium. Don't stop taking any of your meds!! Jill is right - you should check all this out with your docs. I agree that finding out information from them is like pulling teeth sometimes - I get it in drip, drip effect! Also, this forum is fantastic but you mustn't take everything said on here as gospel. We get it wrong sometimes you know!

I was told not to take supplements but that may not apply to you. I'm truly sorry if I worried you - it was more of a general reply that I was posting, not nec for you :). I know this debate has been had on other threads and forums. Do you have a rheumatology nurse you can ring and ask?

Please don't worry about what you've already taken but you should tell your consultant/gp if you are feeling so fatigued all the time, there might be a reason for it. That is one reason they say not to take supplements when you are on drugs such as mtx - you may mask a side effect.
Let us know what they say. Might be useful - as Jill said, all posts are useful as it brings up a debate and informs us all.

I find showers and baths a vicious circle. I prefer baths to showers so I rest up for a couple of days so can get in the bath but then the bath makes me hurt. Have a shower which makes me ache and feel like I could do with a bath lol

When i was off ill from work for 1.5 years when my RA was really bad and not in control i made myself a bath to see if it helped.
Had to throw myself in but found i couldn't get out. Spent 3 hours in the tub so frustrated with myself for even thinking about having a bath.
Luckily my wife returned home from work and with help of a neighbor i got out, very embarassing.
I love the shower and am lucky enough to have a ensuite so no climbing into the bath to have a shower.

I have asked my work today to take me of shift work too.. we'll see how that goes.

Ive been in that predicament in the past too. So determined to have a bath and then I panicked when I really couldnt get out. Took me about 45 mins of intense pain and tears to get out. Never never again. lol Dont even think Itd be physically possible for me now anyway lol

Good luck with work Paul, really glad youve asked them already! they may need you to work extra but what Ive learnt over the past 18 yrs is that you have to work around the arthritis and not the other way round. Put yourself first : ) xx

Hi guys, just wanted to say that I have always as far as I can remember (I actually got a doctors sick note for fatigue when I was 20 and didn't even know what the term meant then!)had fatigue - been recently diagnosed with arthritis in my feet at age 35 and would never have thought they were linked - I take afternoon naps often but will try your tip Abbie, luckily I work from home but wish I had more energy, will certainly give this a try - hope everyone is good - Just wanted to say as well Jill,my mum is still getting hassled from her employers saying she is unfit to do her job, she worked 12 hours shifts 4 days on day and 4 days off then 4 days on nights and had to walk down 35 flights of stairs to check the building every night which I'm sure wouldn't have helped - she says she will fill me in when it is finished so hope that is soon! Will fill you in when I know more but will report back shortly if I find out any other anti fatigue remedies....All the best...

Hi Suzie, the pastilles that Abbie suggested seems to be ¦Vitamins (NOT Abbies fault tho, cos she was helping us,) but someone looked into them, seems they r vitamins, and for most of us that are on Immune suppressants, they arnt good for us....wow Your Mum does so much, that job wld Kill me off....its funny tho Suzie when i was in my early 20s I also had to take offf 4 weeks due to 'Severe fatugue' cld barely walk thru exhaustiion, like U, I hadnt even heard of the word!...looking back, can see that was the begining of this misery im now trappped in,

Hi All I suffer with anaemia with my RA and have to take iron tablets, symptoms are tiredness etc. but i know we all get reg blood tests but its just another idea as to what could cause constant fatigue.
paul your employers should be more aware of your needs, at my work we have set up a disability focus group run by HR you do have rights concerning working hours and shifts if you are unwell etc hope this helps

sarah H i think all companies whld do 5the same as yours, but I guess it must depend on whether its a bitg company or a small one ?? it shouldnt make a difference, but if ya employed by a small comnpany and they depned on U to do that particular job, then i guess it can get difficult for the company to get the work fulfilled, un fair i know, think it shld be allowed everywhere, and government funded for the small comnpanies....but I forgot, the lousy politicians keep spending what the small companies need to support the Disability focus groups on their greeedy fat selves!!
