I like walking but can't do as much as I used to. I also live in a flat and something that strengthens my leg muscles in the same way walking up stairs would be good.

also forgot the powerball, its just a gyro that you hold in your hand and spinning it helps build strenght in your wrists and arms.

I use one and it does help, hope this link works:

Hi Sally,

I am fine thanks, just really tired today, hope all is well with you.

My wrists are damaged and hurt quite a bit but i have found the powerball is ok to use and helps build strenght in the arms and wrissS.
I only have the normal powerball (theres loads to choose from) and find it totally fine for my needs.
It takes some time to get it going at first but after you've done it once its easy.
The faster you go the more you'll feel the workout through your arms.
I actually think the NHS should supply these (you can get them for under a tenner) for patients not only with arthritis but rsi etc.

Kind regards

Paul

Hi Paul, glad you are ok. I've got problems with my wrists too so will get one. I wish the NHS would give you better advice about all these things - if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't know very much at all!

I get tired too, is the drugs with you or the arthritis? My consultant says it is the latter with me. I find I have to limit what I do in a day - can't do it all anymore. Am sure that's true for all of us here.
Take care.

Anyone got any comments on vibro plate machines ? I have heard these are chosen for care homes and well regarded as easy excercise without stress on joints What about the intense vibration though? Thought to ask my G P but I'm sure he would have no idea !

I think its the arthritis that makes me tired and the lack of sunshine.

I've heard good things about those vibro plate machines, its worth finding a place that can give you a free session, just so you can see what it does. I know theres one near my work in London (liverpool street station area) that does.

The only thing i know is that you will have to do exercises on it, but its best to speak to a trainer and explain you have arthritis.

Also these machines are not cheap if you wanted to buy one yourself. They range from a few hundred pounds up to thousands of pounds + .

Many regards

As an ex squaddie i try and keep myself fit, last night i tried a run.. didn't go well, felt as if my big toes on both feet were broken :-(

I know my right big toe and 3 other toes cannot bend anymore and xrays show the bone eaten away at the joint it connects to the main part of your foot. I used to love running.. its a complete bummer.

Anyway after failing at the running side of life i tried the EA fitness on the Wii, this is excellent and gives a really good workout, its more serious than Wii Fit and i highly recommend it. Of course its not like going to the gym but for a start its good.

I used to do Yoga also upto 5 hours a week, i loved it and need to start it again.
Good thing with Yoga is that its slow, relaxing and if you cannot perform a pose there are things you can use to help, such as belts, blocks and towels.

Hey Paul, i have one of those powerballs but I dont have enough strength in my hands to actually grip it lol Plus in my right hand, my fingers are too deformed to really even hold it. But Ive tried briefly with me left hand and its good in that you can only go as fast as youre capable of rather than getitng carried away.

sorry to hear that Verity, thats a real shame your hands are so bad as the powerball really does work.
I would really recommend them to anyone with RSI/athritis as a means to gain strenght in the hands, wrist and arms.
