Hello Gary
I have been on Sulpha for nearly two years. I take six a day and have not had any major problems. For the first few months I did have headaches and nausea, but these side effects went away. It makes your urine bright yellow and can make your tears and perspiration slightly yellow too. You should be having regular blood tests whilst taking this med.
Hope this helps.

Hiya Gary, I have been taking sulfasalizine for over a year now, with no side effects.I think they helped my disconfort, but my bloods kept high, so my rhummy added MTX to my medication. That was about 6 months ago. Still no side effects or complaints. (touch wood)

Hi, I've been on sulf/zine for about 4 months now. It's working well. Initially felt really rough in my stomach and head, but thats calmed down a bit now, however I do feel a bit strange sometimes when I'm driving, a bit like motion sensitivity... Get regular blood tests...

Hi Ladies
Sorry have'nt been her for ages. WARNING This is not meant to frighten anyone and it is rare!!
I started taking Sulfa mid Dec had bloods done after 2 weeks they were ok. Then after a month I had a sore throat went to GP who gave me pencillin symptons got worse with lumps in armpit skin went black. Went back to GP 3 days later and he took one look and admitted me....it turned out I was in neutropenic shock white blood count was <0.25 and the infection was taking over and my body was closing down. Basically sulfa had wiped out my immune system totally. when immune system came back lumps n armpit turned to abcess ending up having a debridement of the armpit under GA 4 weeks on have a wound that is being packed everyday.
PLEASE do not ignore any symptoms you have go to GP and ask even if you think you are being a nuisance I did'nt want to go My Husband made me and thank goodness he did!!

I came off Sulfa straight away havent taken MTX either for about 6 months - liver didnt like. Not taking anything at the mo except diclofenac!! Another Dr (not Rheumy) who I trust said there is an enzyme in the body that filters these toxic drugs when you take them and he thinks I dont have that enzyme - not sure and didnt ask if that enzyme can be replaced/given to you.
I am so sorry to hear your son still not in school I cant remember if I told you this before but a friends son had the same they had 2 hellish years but he did eventually go back do his GCSES(got average passes as well) and is now in college. A lot of it was separation anxiety as well with him so maybe as you are not well your son doesnt like leaving you in a sub conscience way!!!
Take care x

Hi, I have been on Sulfasalazine since last July. Had horrible nausea at first but Doc prescribed anti-sickness tablets that helped! I am now several months down the line and although I feel kind of better than I did, I still don't feel brill and my bloods have risen since being on it. I am off to Docs to talk about going on Mthx to see if that suits me better. if not, I will go back on Sulfa and get on with it!!
Hope you are doing ok xx

I was taking Sulfasalazine and had no side effects at all. Until after about 7 weeks I developed a rash. I thought nothing of it, and then woke up one morning with my whole face swollen up like a football! Apparently I had a dose related allergic reaction to them and am about to start on Methotrexate.
